Plug Wires

How many hours did your motor have before changing Spark Plug Wires? What Brand did you use? Thanks

Am I to believe that out of 39 hits, that not anyone on this forum has ever changed plug wires??????

Guilt trip in process...

Everyone was busy realizing that they have never changed them, they launched a new internet window and started shopping and never remembered to go back and reply!

By the way, eggbeater (outboard) plug wires are about 6 inches long and I have never replaced mine.

Thanks for reply, have almost 500 hours on mine, 454-300hp, still orginal, wondering if I should change

I think I changed mine at 162 hours. They were 11 years old and I changed to MSD 8.5 wires. When I checked the resistance old vs. new the new ones were significantly lower, I dont remember the exact ohm difference. Spark plug wires break down with time and should be replaced when damaged or when the resistasnce per foot exceeds manufactures spec.

Well, time to change, couldn't hurt.....1998 motor with 350+ hours. No more than they cost, I will change. Thanks Guys for imput........

plug wires

i was actually looking into changing mine also.
they're working fine but i have no idea how old they are.

i know that we can use automotive one's but the trick is finding the right length and terminal style depending on exhaust.

someone mentioned MSD which makes great plug wires and you can get a set that you can cut to a custom length.

I HAD THE MSD WIRES LAST YEAR AND THEY WERE CRAP! THEY WERE PART OF A MSD KIT I BOUGHT FROM CP PERFORMANCE AND KEPT FALLING APART. MY BOAT WAS AT A MARINE ENGINE BUILDERS PLACE FOR REPAIRS AND HE THROUGH THEM IN THE TRASH. HE TOLD ME HE PUTS THE MERCRUISER STOCK WIRES ON RACING ENGINES HE BUILDS AND YOU CAN'T BEAT THE STOCK MERCRUISER THUNDERBOLT IGNITION EITHER. I WISH I HAD RUN INTO HIM BEFORE I SPENT THE BIG DOUGH ON THE MSD KIT. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY BOOTS FELL APART CHANGING PLUGS LAST YEAR. HOPE THIS HELPS.
