POSTING FULL SIZE PICS & Via Gallery

Hi Ross,

The process is pretty simple really.

There are two main parts to the process.

1) Uploading, organizing and storing your images
2) Linking and posting your images to the message board.

Editing, Uploading, Organizing & Storing

The first steps involved, will be related to uploading your image(s).

Keep in mind, there are limits and restrictions to what you can upload. (Note: I've tried to be somewhat generous on the size limitations). However, you cannot upload any type of file or size. And this is to help keep the site secure and running smoothly. So your file is best saved in .jpg format. There are also limits to the size of the file. When you are in the upload are, there should be a little chart which tells you how big the file size can be in KB. So if your file is bigger than the limit, or if it is of a different format, when you try to upload the file from your computer to our server, it will fail.

So the real first step with members uploading images to the gallery involves members preparing their images, to be uploaded. Meaning, editing the image, compressing, resizing etc.

So after an image is prepared, the next step is to upload it to the gallery.

Uploading

First, you go into the gallery.

Second, look for the "Upload Photos" link as pictured below in the image posted below. Please note that this link will appear in slightly different places depending on where you are in the gallery.

(fig #1)

Clicking that will open up a file uploading interface as pictured below.

(fig #2)

If you look at the top of the screen shot (fig #2), you will actually see the bottom of the area which gives you the file types and size limitations which you can upload. Below that will be the area where you prepare your images to be uploaded. The first two boxes relate to what categories you will upload your images to. Depending on where you are in the gallery when you hit the "Upload Photos" link, different categories will appear by default. For example, if you are viewing the "Checkmate Images" gallery category and you hit the "Upload Photos" while viewing that category, the category "Checkmate Images" will appear in the drop down box by default. If you don't want to upload your images to that category though, then just click the drop down box and change it to the category you do want your image to go in to.

Once you choose the gallery category(s), you then click the browse buttons and navigate to where your images are on your computer. If you are only uploading one, you can also enter both a title and description for the image. As in title..."My Pulsare on the Rio" and then as a description..."this is a picture from 1998 when I my Pulsare down a trip down the Rio" etc.

Alternatively, or, if you are uploading more than one image, you can enter your descriptions and titles in the next step.

So once you've got everything ready to go, you hit the "upload/submit" button, which you will see in the bottom of the screen shot pictured above. (fig #2)

At this point, the gallery software will take you to a second screen once your photos have uploaded successfully. That screen will look like this...

(fig #3)

As you can see in (fig #3), once your images are uploaded, you will see thumbnails of each image you uploaded as well as there are areas for you to enter descriptions, titles and choose additional categories for each image. If at this point, or if for some reason you decide you don't want to add one of the images you just uploaded for whatever reason, simply remove the check mark from "Add Photo" column.

Finally, once you've got everything entered as you would like, you hit the "process" button. At this point your images will be finalized and the gallery software will work it's magic and your images will be sent to the proper categories etc. You will most likely also see them appear in the "recent photos" display at the top of the gallery or category(s) until they are replaced with newer ones.

Hopefully that all makes sense and helps, if not you can post your questions and I'll try to answer and edit the instructions appropriately.

I'll create a second post on how to work with your images and post them on the board in a bit...
