ok guys i have a 21 enchanter that im about 2 overhaul...the previous owner had a merc 2.5 on it i think 245 carb motor...15 inch short shaft....did like 73 on gps.....i have a yamaha 2.6 15 inch also...but i was jus wonder if any1 on here has a 300x or like a merc 2.5 260 or a 280 or any short shaft motor....thanks in advance i'll appreciate any help i get:thumb: ...and what r the most mph any has achieved in these hulls

it was a fun ride!
with my 200 on it, it ran mid 60s....kind of boring. with some mods, and some tight heads i was running 73 at best.....
then i put the 260 powerhead on there and it ripped!! was a little hairy at times!
the acceleration was great!! i ran a 23 tempest plus and turned it up near 7000-7400 max.

i have a 79 enchanter that i redid this year came out sikk beautifuli had a motor already a 25 inch 250 ox66 yamii. runs strong but its missing speed only hit 59.8 on gps how could i got faster? i have a 21 pitch prop n no jackplate. i was planning on a 23 pitch n a jackplate u think that will improve or do i need a new motor??motor is on a brackett with platforms n water shoot up out of the lower unit when i step on it. does that meen it needs to be lifted ?? shorter shaft maybe?? jackplate?? plz get back to me

I think the enchanters are set up for a 20" mid so if your bolted to the transom all the way down you would be to low in the water. Some setback is good and a jackplate will help get the height dialed in. A 21p is a very small prop for that boat with that power. I ran a 23p on my 19' with a 20" 150hp merc on it, 4" jackplate set about 2" above the transom. I had a 25" 275 merc for my 21'er but never got around to rigging it to find what works. I am not an expert and am just now learning on outboard setup but thats my thoughts:)

i want to buy a 25 pitch from a mercruiser .. will it fitt my yamaha 250 ox66???? plz get back to me asap

B70 had some outrageous #'s with just a 260:thumb:. Most are not that fortunate.

Personally, I will never run another 2.4 or 2.5 on a Checkmate over 18'. In my opinion they need the displacement for the weight of the hull.

My vote is 300X or 300XS. That will put that hull into the upper 80's low 90's with some set up for sure.

Do ya think it would still need the setback witg a 300xs I'm currently running 12,with my 2.4 . Boat is getting new transom an floor this winter possible thinkin 300 in the plans

Yes :bigthumb: Also if thinking about running a big motor and your doing a transom, make the knee's as big as you fit tying them into the stringers (if you can call them stringers  )
Big motor + Setback = lots of stress to transom
