Powering an antique boat - Canadian style

Every year in July the town of Gravenhurst host the "Antique and Classic Boat Show", and every year they have a feature boat - this year it's Miss Canada IV. Back in the day it ran 200mph, and while they were testing it in early May, they clocked an idle speed of 26mph!!!!

Check out her powerplant up and running:

pretty cool boat!

Can't wait for this years show! it looks like they are going to have a TON of cool boats this year! Gotta love the sound of 3000 hp in a wood boat, talk about having stones to drive it 200+ mph!!

Well that puts all other project boats in history to shame. Gotta get a pick of her up in the cottage!

those RR engines are awsome!

i did once an duo flight in an old spitfire with an custom RR engine in an airshow. that was the ride of my life.

One beautiful boat. Got to see it every year at the Clayton ABM.

Glad to see it is water worthy again. That boat would cost too much to duplicate and being a one of a kind makes it even more special.

the fella that's funding the restoration of 4 also owns a replica of 3 with a keith black hemi in it and 6 inch exhaust - that thing was nasty :). 3 will be at ths show this year as well i think. he also has a boat called "pist-off" which has some of the most intricate wood work i have ever seen. it's powered by two 44o chrylser supercharged V8's that to my knowledge have never run worth a crap.

it's very cool how these boats are around after all these years, espcially if they are under their orignal power. a lot of these engines barely run at the best of times, and their technology is unreal - no oil filters, dual plug heads because they couldnt get the engine to combust properly, gear driven generator/starter combos, it is wild.

this year, the boat show is focused on race boats - here's a link to the show for anyone interested:
