Thought I'd share some news with you guys regarding my father-in-law Doyle Kelly.

He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a little over a month ago. In fact it was right after I posted his pics on my blog. I have always been able to count on Doyle to pitch in on almost every project I have ever started. From laying hardwoods and hanging sheetrock in my new house; to restoring campers and trailers. Doyle has left a positive mark on everyone he has come in contact with; not through words or advice; but by the generous giving of his time. He has never hesitated to grab a wrench or a hammer and lend a helping hand. A real salt of the earth kind of man.

He was really looking forward to helping out on my Enforcer restoration. In fact all through the beginning stages of his diagnosis and surgery he's been asking about it. Man it really puts a lump in my throat. I don't think I'll get it done before he passes on but at least he'll be able to see the progress. He'll be coming to live with Lisa and I; and will be getting his chemo and radiation here in Nashville at Vanderbilt. Lisa and I will be doing most of his care between treatments(I'm an ER Trauma nurse here at VUMC and Lisa is a nurse at Baptist Med Ctr).

Keep Doyle and his family in your prayers; he dosn't have many months or days left; I only pray that he meets the Lord with as little suffering and as much peace as possible. Everyone here has been great; Thanks for letting me share this with you.

He's on my list. People like that are just not replaceable and although everyones time will come it's tough to take. Take care and know that if God is on your side everything will be OK

My thoughts and prayers will be with Doyle and the family Rod. Sounds like a pretty unique individual indeed. Your description of him immediately made me think of my late grandfather that we lost to cancer in 1985. Never once hesitated to just jump in and git-r-done. Never had to ask, he was just there. I can remember him showing up at the house on a Sunday to help out with things that we hadn't even started working on yet haha!!
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Thanks guys for all your kind words. Doyle is a special guy and have only heard him say one cross word in the 18 years I've known him....and it was directed at me LOL. I deserved it. When a man demonstrates the Lords walk thru actions not words; when he finally does say something it leaves a lasting and positive impression. I've been richer knowing Doyle.

We'll keep Doyle and your family in mind over up coming months. After going through a similar experiance with my father a year and a half ago I know where your headed. One thing, if you'r working on the enforcer and Doyle wishes to help even if you know he shouldn't, let him. It'll be a memory which you'll continue to look back on. No regrets.

PRAYERS

ROD: ALL OF US AT CHECKMATE WILL KEEP YOUR DAD IN OUR PRAYERS. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH HIM. I GOT TO SPEND TIME WITH MY DAD AND IT WAS THE MOST REWARDING TIME OF MY/HIS LIFE.

Just to give an update; Doyle and Pat are now settled in at our house; had his first appointment with his oncologist at Vandy and it went very well. Looks like he and Pat will be staying at least six months. I think Lisa is just relieved that her dad is here in Franklin so she can keep a closer eye on his care. Also, being around the grandkids( three boys) has helped his attitude in a big way:).

I've put the enforcer rebuild on hold the last 5 weeks; but plan on getting back to it sometime next week. I've also had the added distraction of helping the boys build they're pinewood derby cars the last several weeks. The pack race is this sunday; I'll post some pics afterwards in the open forum. thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers. I should be back on my blog shortly.

Doyle had his 1st round of chemo today and it went well; He looks so much better than when he arrived. We're taking it one day at a time. Thanks for your concern.:)
