predictor horsepower

I was reading an old thread about rigging a predictor. The horsepower of choice seems to be a 150 hp merc.
I am looking at setting up the predictor I got from Sim a little different and was wondering how much is too much. I just received the CMC 6 inch set back jack plate from Bob @ Roberts marine and since I have to pull the motor anyway cause I want to clean the motor well and install a new Stainless support before I mount the jack plate I was wondering if my 175 merc or the 200hp evinrude on the starflite (winters' old one) is too much.
Let me know your thought about these motor choices. I can also just leave the 115 merc on it after I put the jackplate on it.
Oh well let me know what you think.

I would rig the 175 Merc. It will use the same controls as the 115. You will get tired of the 115 in a day and the 200 Rude' is heavy.

200 !!!!

illmattic can tell you the details, i bought his predictor...

Its a Blast !!!! nuttin like the feeling of that thing all aired out @ 80mph!!!:D:D

great east predictor has a 2.4 bridgeport on his.....i think?

My 225 is only a little heavier than my 175 was (68lbs). What year are the motors?
I'd vote for the 175- bolt and go!

i would stay with the merc 175 since you can just bolt it up and plug it in. If it is running good you should see high 70's.

i think that 200 rude would be too heavy. you wouldnt like how it felt. plus you would have to swap out the controls.

Perdictor hp

I blew my Yammi prov 150 and installed a 225 looper on my 17' Panther ( the same as a V-mate 2) with a six inch plate and it's ok. I would not put it on a 16' boat though. My advice would be get it ALL DONE the the new motor installed before you let you're wife know about the surprise!!! LOL! My Joanne was not to happy with the bigger motor! After realizing that she dous'nt really like the boat that much and it's really just me and the kids that love it, I'm making it faster again for next year! I'm finally installing a gps speedo so I will be able to post top speeds.

Kyle- you're such a good husband! All these years and you've still got a few tricks up your sleeve! I want a ride!

Yep 175 is the one.

At least for me....I would get tired of the 115.

Valid points mentioned so far, weight, rigging etc... the 175 is a no brainer:surf:
