Press Release-New Checkmate Convincor Coming in 2012

Well the 270 is a pretty good smaller version of the 300 and it's available as a open bow if you want so I think they have that covered.

I think the plan is to try and provide an update to the convincor line starting at the bottom and see if it gains acceptance in the market? The ZT line is full of different boats, some are convincor based with built in swim platforms while others are old Baha boats.

While it looks like the new boat would fit into the ZT line up better, CM must be putting it in the convincor line for a reason.

I don't think I can say if I like it or not from the renderings, I need at least to have pictures of the finished product. I agree that the renderings do look somewhat like other boats, but that is sure to happen as there is only so much designers can do to a performance boat.

I hope the final product differs greatly from the rendering........because I don't like the rendering at all.......brings a Nerf football image back into my mind. Too futuristic for a brand that has such classic offshore styling.

There, and I didn't even say that it looks like a H2X either!

too much like

and how many of these did they sell?

again; i can't believe we are still seeing PLEXIGLASS WIND SCREENS wtf?

Did you just post a link to this thread in this thread?:rof:

I don't think I have ever seen that done before.:poke:

actually my dumba$$ didn't see this thread and started a thread on this topic so chris closed it then moved the posts here.

.....not sure if swim platform is included in LOA but if so............80k for a 24' ?..............so the recession is over then?

That is a hideous drawing:sick:! I hope the final product resembles more of the traditional Checkmate look! I think the powers to be at Checkmate need to pay more attention to modernizing some of their hull bottoms, improving their internal structure with composite stringers/transoms and leaving the traditional topdeck Checkmate "look" alone:thumb:. Why not add a few high performance step/pad bottoms, inner liners, new seats, etc. to the traditional Checkmate Convincor lineup:confused:??? How about replacing the wood with Coosa board/Mantex/etc. The Pulsares 2000's, 2100's, 2400's are all doing great with their upgrades(cept for that little Baja looking BRX). What we don't need or want is a bunch of egg shaped, spaceship looking, Baja like new boats sprouting out of Checkmate!!!:irked:

Actually, I thought it was priced fairly reasonable for a new, fully rigged, i/o powered boat. Hell, just look at the cost for a new engine/drive package.

Not sure about the styling.. have to see it in person, or actual pictures.

This is funny! Yet so true. I'm going to check this thread later and I bet I will still be laughing!

Can't wait to see the final product. Renderings are a good start anyway but I will reserve judgement. Egg...spaceship...holly crap that's funny (BUT I AGREE). CM please cut up the BAJA molds...

I just merged the two threads together, it was no biggee, so no worries. :)

I'm with most I think, on holding out criticism till I see an actual boat. It could go either way. I also was wondering, if your building a new mold why no stepped hull. The technology is there and seems to be ignored, is it a money issue to keep down the price or just stuck with old sckool? I just keep thinking were looking at a camaro and wanting it to be a corvette. It is what it is for the price. Which is a great price, so maybe were expecting to much!
I would like to see the options of a baja if its gonna copy one. Baja offers up to 600 hp motors, pump out pissers, tube swim platforms, gps, etc, etc, just everything fresh and modern on the same size boat.

I know the majority are anti baja but if checkmate builds a boat with there ways of building and takes the options and modernest from baja it could be a winner. Just thinking out loud!

Keith,
You are absolutely right. A boat with Checkmate's legendary build qualtiy and more moderna ameneties and some higher qualtiy rigging would be a sure winner. I think a 300 with the Merc 600 package rigged the way some of my buddies boats (Sunsations and yes even some Baja's) are rigged. Would be amazing. Just be careful saying that around here, you might get strung up.

I am not sure why they seem to be ignoring the stepped hull option, it seems like a wise decision to me.

If they are including the swim platform in the 26 feet of length. Wont the outboard version "without the swim platform" be the same length as the 2400? If so, could that be why they have only a single outboard option?

I seen that one or one with the same colors on brookville one weekend. Tho I am not big on styling, it did not look bad in the water!

So thats at least 1 ZT244 built ;)

I think Checkmate would open themselves up to a larger potential market by adding a stepped hull or two to the line up using the classic offshore lines that everybody loves and Checkmate is known for. I would love to see (and eventually buy) a stepped hull Mate. CMate has some of the best performance vs. dollar figures on the market but why not make them even faster? Steal some potential customers away from the more expensive brands. Checkmate can still be a real competitor in the go fast boat world. Why settle for the "Baja Niche" of the market?

Several Checkmates have had stepped hulls over the years. The ZT230 has one right now. The Starflite had a step. Just adding a step to a hull doesn't make it faster, you have to figure out the right place to put the step, or if in fact it even needs a step, not all hulls will run better with a step. It might not be enough of a gain to make it worth the trouble.

Coop, the steps that Checkmate used in the Starflite was very small and not vented. The step in the ZT230 hull is also not advanced. If you compare Checkmate's steps to Fountain, Active Thunder, Outerlimits, Hustler, Cigarette, Formula, etc. you will see huge differences. It's a proven fact that a well placed/designed step will make a boat faster and more fuel efficient!! Checkmate should get their design team together and so some R&D on some of the more popular models to improve speeds. I bet a step in the Pulsare 2100's and 2400's would gain some attention!!!

Checkmate hulls run (in certain conditions), that is the bottom line. Step or no step, it doesn't really matter. My personal opinion is that as a manufacturer they tend to run light because they are built light and run on top. The current line-up may not benefit from a stepped hull. Who knows???

In my opinion CM should only consider steps if they make a new ,heavy layup, "true offshore" boat 30+ feet without the platform. I know I am gonna hear a bunch of comments about how a Conv. 300 is a true offshore hull and will take on any 30' boat you put against it.... The truth is that if you put a 30' Fountain, Baja, Cig, or Formula, etc against the 300 in the Atlantic Northeast, in sloppy conditions, I would wager that the Checkmate will get roasted and show up to the docks far behind the previously named manufacturers. In calm conditions, the shoe will be on the other foot. Those other hulls with the same power will be slower for sure in the calm.

There are pros and cons to both aspects. I say save the steps for the big boats and leave well enough alone with the proven Checkmate hulls.

I also, would like to see Checkmate put the R&D money into serious interiors, motor packages, engine compartments, electronics, etc. I know we are asking a lot out of a "semi-custom" "affordable" boat manufacturer, but they don't have to do all of the boats to the "cadillac" grade.

In all honesty, I really just want to see them succeed and make boats for many years to come!

I don't know where I was going here, but I am sure someone will get me on the right path:D.
