Prop Suggestions

I recently purchased a 1992 Pulse 185 with a 1992 Merc 175 carb motor mounted to the transome. What would be a good all around prop for skiing cruising and going fast. We will be mainly skiing or cruising. I was thinking a 22p 3 blade turbo or similiar. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Smitty

If you do some searching you'll probably find the Trophy props to be very popular. They are four blades. The have excellent hole shot, a good top end and great handling is also a bonus. Probably look for a 21-23 pitch ?(depending on your driving) What do you have now ? What kind of rpms are you turning ? What kind of rpms do you want to turn ?:bigthumb:

prop

ive got the same setup . now w/a jack plate , but i had 21p laser ll when i got it, i ran a 20p merc alpha 4 alm. great results for all around use topped out @ 53mph gps w/o jackplate ! i just got a trophy plus ,but havent had chance to try it ! :brickwall: weather here sucks

Props

Sounds like a trophy is an excellent choice. I haven't had the boat in the water yet. Won't until next spring. I want to have as much as possible done so I'm ready to go in the Spring. I was guessing mid 60's at around 5800 to 6000 RPM. Thanks for the reply's guys. Anyone else? Smitty

I have a 92 pulse 186 with a 93 200 on her and LOVE the Turning point classic.
Own/tried Laser II, Trophy plus, Merc Chopper, and the TP is by FAR my favorite.

Confused

I guess I'm not sure which prop I need. I have a 92 175 merc 2.5L on a Pulse 185. What diameter and pitch Trophy Plus do I need? There's a guy on Scream and fly that bought a TP 21P and now is looking for a TP 23P. It looks like he's running a Checkmate with a merc V6 also. Thanks. Smitty

find a prop shop that will let you test a few
start with a 21 pitch for a baseline

don't trust your speedo take a gps for all test runs and try to match load and ballance

good luck daren

he 's here too jallen 355 as much the same his set up is different . as is mine not by much w/jackplate . there are alot of threads under prop set up topic ,ck em out . a ton of info ! propshaft height , set back etc . . . it all depends on your usage , needs .

I have the same boat but it is a 1995 year. I have tried alot of different props and am currently running a 23p Tempest Plus. I like it the most out of all the props I've tried. 64mph GPS, 5800-6000 RPM, pulls 195lb. skiers out slalom no problem. Handles really good all around. I have a 21p High Five also. Used it for years. Gets me about 60mph and about the same RPMs as the Tempest. It is a little better for pulling but not much. If you are pulling kids on tubes or skiing I would get the Tempest, you will have no problems with it and will still gain some speed. I have tried Lasers and I don't like how they handle on my boat. Good Luck!

Also, can I ask how much you bought the boat for? I am curious how much because I may be selling mine soon.

Thanks!

Checkmate Prop

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like the tempest plus is an excellent prop. Is it 4 blade or 3? I got the boat for 5 grand. Seller thought it would sell for 7 or more in the spring. He just wanted to get rid of it now so it worked out well for me. Mine is a 7.5 to 8 on a scale of one to 10. Has a few scratches and the front bow cusions need recovered. Do you know what diameter it is? Anyone know the difference between a tempest plus and the trophy plus? Thanks. Hope this helps. Smitty
