proud new checkmate owner

hello all,

im new here, new to checkmates, and new to boating in general but can't wait to get my feet wet! well actually my hull wet :) I recently purchased a 1979 16.5 ft Checkmate open bow (not sure of model?) with the original 1979 mercury 115 tower of power :). It also has brand new interior, and electrical that looks a bit liek spaghetti but i'm working that out. a lot of boat for just over 1,000.00 havent even had time to put the boat on the water yet but i'm extremely happy with the boat already.
ill attatch a few pics

thanks all,

the steering on the boat is on the tight side, i cleaned and greased the rack and pinion as well as the tilt tube but its still stiff. is it simply time to just replace the old steering cable?
