PULARE 2100

JUPITER PULSARE

Well-known member
HEY GUYS, I JUST PICKED UP A 1994 PULSARE 2100 RIGGED WITH A BOBS HYDRAULIC JACK PLATE, FOOT THROTTLE, SEA STAR PRO HYDRAULIC HELM, AND A TRAILER FOR $5200.00. I THINK I GOT A GREAT DEAL. THE HULL IS BLACK METAL FLAKE AND THE INTERIOR IS DECENT SHAPE. NOW I JUST NEED TO FIND A STRONG MOTOR TO HANG ON THE ASS END. I NOW ALSO NEED TO SELL MY 1989 SPECTA 170/MERC 150XR2 TO BUY A MOTOR SOOO... IF ANY ONE NEEDS A GREAT CHECKMATE PACKAGE THAT IS ALL ORIGINAL AND GARAGE KEPT CALL ME A (954) 401-7296

BOAT WILL BE FINISHED MONDAY!! INSTALLED A 1995 MERC 225 EFI (XRI) MOTOR. ADDED BOB'S MACHINE SHOP 2" SPACERS BETWEEN THE MOTOR AND JACK PLATE. I NOW HAVE 7.5" INCHES OF SETBACK AND NO CLEARANCE PROBLEMS BETWEEN STEERING RAM AND HULL. CONTROLS AND STEERING IS ALL HOOKED UP. T&T FOOT THROTTLE JUST GOT FINSIHED. READY FOR SOME TLC AND WAXING. I WILL BE IN THE WATER BY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RAN MY PULSARE 2100 WITH THE 225 EFI YESTERDAY. QUITE A BIT DIFFERENT FROM MY 17' SPECTRA!! LOT'S OF THINGS TO TINKER WITH WHILE DRIVING; SHIFTER AND TRIM TO THE RIGHT, JACK PLATE SWITCH TO THE LEFT OF THE WHEEL, FOOT THROTTLE, ETC. GOING TO BE A LEARNING CURVE ON THIS ONE. AT ABOUT 70MPH THE BOAT BEGINS TO CHINE BADLY. I THINK I MAY HAVE TO MUCH PROP. I WOULD'VE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE PAST THE CHINE WALK BUT I HAD MY GIRLFRIEND AND HER DAUGHTER ON BOARD. SAFETY FIRST!!

FYI:

Take your time and be careful.

You can't drive "past" the chine walk. You can only counteract the chine walk with steering wheel adjustments. Esentially, you have to balance the hull and stop it from falling side to side.

Also, The better you have it set-up, the less chine walk you will have.

HEY CRAIG, THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I THINK I NEED TO DO SOME PROP EXPERIMENTATION. MOST OF THE PULSARES I'VE SEEN ON THIS SITE ARE RUNNING 5.5" OF SETBACK OR OVER 10". I'M RIGHT AT 7.5" OF SETBACK SO SOME TINKERING MUST BE DONE TO FIND THE SWEET SPOT.

I have a Pulsare with a 3.0 L 225 EFI. I have run 5.5, 7.5, & 12" of setback. For me, 7.5" is about right although I didn't see a huge change even going to 12" Craig was dead on about chine walk. Learning to avoid it is like learning to ride a bike. It takes a little time & practice but once you learn you will keep it stable without even thinking about it & with minimal steering input. Try going opposite the wobble with small quick turns of the wheel at first until you get the hang of it. A motor mounted too low makes chine walk worse. Too high & you might lose water pressure (get a guage if you don't already have one). The cavitation plate on the motor should be about 4-6" above the bottom of the boat as a starting point.

I think I have tried about every prop Mercury makes. My favorite for all around use is a Laser II. A Chopper is at least a couple of miles an hour faster but gives poor hole shot with a boat load of people. I have heard 4 blade props are supposed to be better for chine walk but I haven't really noticed myself. The 4 blades I tried were a little slower. After you learn to balance the boat on the pad you will be able to pick a prop that gives max recommended operating rpm with a light load.
Good luck & enjoy.
