Pulse VS Pulsare

What gives.... Seems to me, my set up on a 186 should be going faster than 73.

What is the diff between the two hulls? Deadrise?
See all these 2100 w/ 225 posting 80..

It takes more than 225 to get a pulsare to 80 mph. The fastest a 225 pulsare is the one with a 10 inch wide pad and apx 12in set back,I believe it runs 77/78 mph.Its been awhile sense he posted.

How fast is your mate thread just posted 80 on that set up????
I figured my little guy would haul A$$... Might need some NOS... l.o.l

Here's a question for ya...
I have a 26" small hub chopper I can't get to go anywhere. I have run it 3" down 2" down 1" down... Just blows out, I have spun it 6600 going like 65???? Makes no sense to me. Came off a 25' check years ago running twin 200 Mercs and pushed to boat like crazy!

Most of the Pulsares running 77-80 are probably pushing 250-275HP. Whether it be the 250XS motors or the 3.0L modded motors. Bluehealer and myself have motors that started as 225EFI's but being the 3.0L 225's. This means change to 300 heads, change the ECU's, exhaust work, lightened flywheels, poppet water diverter, intake air box mods and we end up CLOSE to the early model 300PM(approx.265-275HP) I think Wildman has run a 250XS on a 2100 with results being 81+mph. What does the 186 weigh in at ? I know the older 21' Pulses were some real dogs in comparison to the Pulsares.

Weighs in @ 1100 w/ a max hp rating of 185 hoped the 200 with give her a kick in the pants...

set up is everything, and my feeling is you should be playing with a different prop - i don't think you are optimizing your set up - i would try a trophy plus or maybe a lazer to get some comparison numbers.

Just for comparisom, a 2100 Pulsare with a 200 will run 66 to 68 mph. My 2100 w/225 ran 74 and that was with added set back and running the motor fairly high. boatman

The Pulse 186/185 weighs nearly as much as the 21' Pulsare hull, according to the specs in the brochures. That's why you're not much faster than a Pulsare. The 185/186 will run very close to the 2100 with the same motor/prop/setback, but a little faster because of the shorter hull (easier for the prop to lift). If you're getting 73 GPS with a 200 on the 186/185 hull, you're doing great!

My 225 Promax on the 2100BR with the 23" worked Tempest ran 73.5 GPS at 6400 rpms with 10" setback 4" below the pad. (prop worked for ski duty)

jw has the answers on the pulse , ive got the br 185 rockin the PINK w teal trim ! any way being 18' w hp rating its a big 18 vs. 21's higher hp @ about the same weight ! i'm runnin merc 175 6'' cmc hyd. w 4blade 20p alm fully loaded fuel, equipment, toys kids cooler etc... i get 55 mph. i havent tried my 21p laser ll since j/p was installed , but it was 8-10 mph faster before , im ok w not gettin all out speed most of the time , but im greedy n want best of both ! lol

That's a negatory there good buddy. The Pulse 186/185 weighs as much as the 21' Pulsare hull! That's why you're no faster than a Pulsare. The 185/186 will run very close to the 2100 with the same motor/prop/setback.

Got the weight from the Checkmate Sales flyer/spec sheet.. ???

I'm Running a 10.0" set back and cranked it up will the high temp alarm sings.

Ran a 25" laserII 70 mph @ 6100
26" small hub trophy 72 @ 6000
26" Merc labbed chopper 65 @ 6600..... ( ???? blowing out????)
just bought a 25" turning point runs 73 @ 6000

I told myself I would be happy with 70, BUT as in anything I'm never happy.

I have similar setup but not getting there at the moment. (first try two days ago).
Pulse186, 5" CMC setback, Merc 2.4EFI (V220?) (non Bridgeport) with 225Promax ECU, 1.87 sportsmaster and offshore midsection.

Got to 56-57 with a 25" Laser2 with huge cavitation at 5000rpm...... Engine could go up till 6500rpm but no change whatsoever in speeds. Holeshot wasn't great but not really bad.

anybody a suggestion?

Do you know how far below the pad your running now?

I'm not sure how accurate www.nadaguides is but they list the 1992 Pulse 186 as 1460 lbs. net weight and a 2000 Pulsare 2100BR as 1325 lbs. net weight ?

i own a 96 186 pulse/ with a 99 merc 175 efi and i'm spinning a 26 pitch tempest prop at around 5500 rpm and on gpsed comes in at 63.4.... thats with no jackplate or anything though...

How far below the pad are you running?

When I had mine at 3.5 down with a 25" laser2 it jumped right up on plane
and never cavitated. Ran 70 @ 6100

the lower unit is not there this week as it is being resprayed this week :brickwall: as it turned "black" a little from all the testing done in the workshop. So can't measure it.
Any advice on how far? Could it be I have got the engine to high?

With mine anything higher than 2" below the pad, and I start losing water pressure and run high temps. 3" below works great for all around use.
