I've been wanting to put in a hotter cam in my Gen V 454 in my 251 Convincor. My engine is a stock 330 horse Gen V 454 with a Weiand 177 supercharger, CMI headers and an 850 Holley. The supercharger has been on this engine for 6 years and I have had no problems with it at all. I know I should just leave it alone....its fast and reliable....but it doesn't sound good at an idle....sounds like a stock motor and I'm bored with that sound. I was considering the Mercruiser 525SC camshaft, (Crane part # 132561) which is used in there 454 with my same supercharger. But then I was thinking of going roller cam. I never have delt with roller cams. I know they are better, more power, less friction and more money, but How are the specs read? Since the lift occurs more drasticly, do they act as a larger cam even with the same specs as a flat tappet? I do not want a huge cam, I just want some lope at idle. It has to be 112 or 114 lobe separation for the reversion aspect. Has anyone had any experience with a mild blower roller cam engine?
