Sad News

It is with sad heart to inform the members of this forum that one of our members has passed away.

Sim Platek passed in his sleep 2 weeks ago. His wife Laura was able to reach me last night with the news. My prayers are with her and son Adam.
No matter what we plan for, our life span is not within our control.
May he rest in peace!

Dam that's really sad news. SIM was one of a kind and a great man. Always looked forward to camping out with him at the Chesapeake meets. Prayers to his family.
Rip my pink boat buddy.

Sad to here this, a great guy I was lucky to meet on several trips to the east coast. The last time water skiing was at his insistence so we pulled each other around with the ole’ starflite. He will be missed. RIP

Oh, no...that's awful news. He was a great forum member and was always helpful and patient. For those who knew him personally, I'm sorry for your loss as I'm sure he was the kind of friend everyone wants or wishes they had.

Very sad to hear this. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. You know, I thought that when we got older that it was going to be great. We now have the experience and knowledge accumulated from age. But now everybody is passing on, not to mention the aches and pains and diseases that seem to come on also. I would have loved to sit down and shared some time and maybe an adult beverage or three. Kind of reiterates how important each and every day has become. Time marches inexorably on. This is a sad day for all of us. RIP Buddy. On a lighter note, I'm guessing that boating in the afterlife is going to be that much better with him already there. You know that he is going to gig on me hard if I ever catch up to him up there...... (Smile).

Many thanks to those of you that have replied. Weather you knew him personally or just had the opportunity to chat with him on the forum, you just knew what a great person he was.

I will copy your replies (if possible) and pass them on to his family.

I had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time with him when I did the reconstruction on his Starliner many years ago and was fortunate to enjoyed his friendship.

Wow, so sorry to hear about Sim, he was a great guy. I still have his old Rootbeer Starliner. I was just talking boats with a guy at work. He asked me what kind of boat I had. I showed him a video on YouTube of Sim running it before he sold it to me. It got me thinking about Sim and I made a mental note to give him a call. Then I turned on my computer and saw this......
RIP Sim, Prayers for you and your family.

All,

When Jim let me know 2 weeks ago of Sim's passing earlier in the month, it took me by complete surprise. I had not seen him in about 2 years.

I had known him since I moved to the US in 2011 and bought my first Checkmate in NJ.
He was a character, and a good friend, and it's played a lot on my mind since hearing of his loss.

Yesterday my family and I visited his wife to see how we can help her in the aftermath. She has a lot going on, not surprising. I will be making time to look at his Enforcer (still winterized and shrink wrapped since last year), take photos and put a posting out there for any interested buyers. It has a recently rebuilt V8.

If you know of anyone, please let me know via PM.

These are the last images I have of him driving it with his son and Keith:
(Thanks Photobucket for ruining them with watermarks!)
