Sandy Pond V-Mate

Sandypond 1978

New member
Bought a Checkmate in July and had a ball with it on lake ontario's waves. As a newbie, I've been reading all the posts and now my brain is swelled with Checkmate info. The biggest question I have is the validity of the data plate.
It's a Checkmate that is 15 feet and the data plate says it's a 1978 V-Mate II rated for 165 hp. The hull s/n is CHK12364M78D which matches the registration. However, from what I've read here, it is impossible to have a 15 foot v-mate II, unless someone transfered the data plate from a 17 foot v-mate II. Why would anyone do that? There is an extra set of rivets at the data plate area. Any ideas from the population? I'm in the middle of a full scale rehab. Hired out the transom and floor work but all else is me. Thanks.

I would if I could. My son is busy and I don't see attachment options. My userCP says I can't do attachments too.

You have to set up a photo bucket account load the pics to your account it will give you a link and you copy the link and past on your page you are going to post . Or you email them to one of us that have pic accounts and we can post them for you ....

As what everyone else has said, welcome! :bigthumb:

The only logical explanation I can offer up is either someone mistaken the boat for a V-Mate II by accident when replacing the plate or knowingly changed the plate for the additional horsepower so they wouldn't get in trouble.

Welcome to the family: l bet some one took the tag off a 17ft model and put it on the 15ft boat so it would look like it was rated for a higher horse power.
I'm not sure but that would be my guess.
There are a few guys that work for checkmate on this site that will be glad to help with you researching info on your boat.. I think Kip is one, that knows a lot... Again welcome to the checkmate family..
