Seawater pump/fuel pump

Has anyone ever had one apart...I have the fuel pump off and the impellar and housing off..I need to know how to get the pulley off and the shaft out...Surely someone can help here and has done this before

Oh yeah I had it apart and it is still apart. I used a power steering pulley puller. The type you use on a GM power steering pumps. And you have to press it back on. My cam lobe was worn that makes the fuel pump arm go up and down. By the time I bought the shaft bearings and seals which thanks to merc. its all sold separate. It wasn't much more to by the whole assembly. If you do not have a drain for the lube in yours while you have it off drill and tap a hole at the bottom to change your oil. My old one and my new did not have a drain like the merc. manual said. The new assembly comes with the water pump also.

Why do you need to pull the pulley off

Thanks for the info...i looked at the scematic and that is what i thought i needed to do but wasnt sure....My pump housing has a drain on it already...Mine for some reason was low and i think i saw a couple flakes of brass in it...so am gonna take apart and see whats worn...Thanks

Just bought a 218, guy before me never checked the oil, replacement parts were 125 bucks, had to build a tool to remove pully, went ahead and chunked the whold thing and went to a holley blue fuel pump and new type water pump, cost a lot more but in the future it will pay. Thanks bj218

I totally agree that design was the biggest POS I've seen in a while, put a std seawater pump and a electric fuel pump and sell that thing on ebay...you will be far better off !!!!

I like my sea water/ fuel pump 8 psi any Rpm the thing that sucks about a electric pump is that to mount it properly it needs to be mounted below the tank. A holley pump is a pusher not a puller. Which that means I would need to mount it under the engine to get it low enough. Merc does not sell a rebuild kit. You have to by each bearing and seal seperate. The shaft alone is 125.00 + bearings + seals + water housing + impeller

I like mine sea water /fuel pump as well....is all apart and nothing seems to be worn so will change bearings and seals and put her back together...

SED,
is that pump gonna supprt your HP your running. i ran it up to 550 hp on mine with no issues, but when i added the Procharger i went to a electric pump and used the block off plate for the merc fuel pump and still used the seapump.
just a thought, im sure you checked into it, but i wanted to share info!!

the electric pumps can be mounted above the tank....mine is works fine, also those pumps work ok till they break...then they are very costly and from what I have seen they break on a regular basis..
