Setup for 82 Entertainer, 150HP

Hi everyone, any help would be appreciated..... I am currently restoring my 82 Entertainer which had a 235 Evinrude on it, but it needs a complete refurbishing so I am installing my very low hour '82 150 Evinrude until I'm done with the 235. I want good all around performance, good holeshot and top speed (if it's possible to have both) I will mostly be using the boat with 3-5 other people, gear etc. What is the general rule for how high the motor should be on the transom? I have a Bob's machine 5.5" manual jack plate, should I use this or is there no real advantage? I currently have a 19" and 21" pitch OMC stainless props w/ cup added, I will try these first just to see what my baseline RPM is but I might buy a new prop if it's worth it. I mostly want a baseline for where to mount the engine, the 235 was all the way down on the transom and seemed awfully low in the water, Thanks again, Im new to the boat thing and just want to do it right the first time....:thumb: Eric

Entertainer Set Up

I have a 1979 Entertainer set up with a 2003 200Hp Merc on a 5.5" jackplate running a 25P Tempest or a 26P Chopper. Runs 70+ turning 5600RPM's

The boat was orginally rigged with a 1978 200HP Merc with a 2:1 gear case stock was 1:87 gear case bolted directly to the transom and 2.5" above the transom. This set up was good for sking or top speed. Top speed around 65. I ran a small diameter 26P chopper and custom made 26P TURBO on the boat turning 6000RPM's.

Good Luck on your set up.
