slidemaster jack plate help

I just recently got a slidemaster jackplate for my 16ft diplomat with a looper 140 motor. thinking about installing myself have a motor jack but dont see a safe place to grab motor, any suggestions? any help would be appreciated

Pull your top cowl off motor. Get a lifting ring that screws into the flywheel. I bought a one ton chain hoist for my garage. I have a 2" thick board that spans over 4 trusses in my garage ceiling. The hoist is hung from there.

Here's a link to lifting ring/flywheel puller I purchased. It's a great two in one tool.

Not saying you need to get these exact ones but it will give you an idea of what you'll need.

Good Luck !

P.S. I have a 10" manual Slide Master. It's a very well designed ,strong unit.

The best $20 I ever spent was to rent a engine hoist from an equipment rental store. In 4 hours I was able to swap 2 outboard motors. Only 2 people required. Very safe. No cuts or smashed fingers.

My merc 150 i did last week, put a 3 foot piece of chain to a starter bolt...the one that goes to the block, and hooked the other end to an ear that had a hole in it on the opposite side. then lifted with a come along. piece of cake.

thanks guys, i have access to a engine hoist just wanted to make sure i wasnt pulling on the wrong thing. all of you input is appreciated....sure beats $200.00 the local marine wants to charge!!

looper lifting

I lift my 225 looper by threading three bolts into the threaded holes in the top of the flywheel. They are 2" long and have washers on the ends and i put each one through the link of a small piece of chain. With the chain under all three boltheads and washers with each section of slack between the bolts running through the hook on the engine hoist. I think the bolts are 5/16 fine thread. Check the top of you're flywheel for three threaded holes. Don't crank the bolts in tight, just finger tight will do.

Hey man, that is brilliant! I don't know why that never even occurred to me.
I need to replace a jack plate and have spent hours concoting how to back the boat to just the right tree branch to raise the merc with a come-along. What a pain.
Now I know what I'm gonna do. Thanks!
