so how will I know if my steering cable is long enough?

I am going to put a 6 inch setback, 5 inch rise hydrolic jackplate on my enchanter, so how can I tell if my steering cables are going to be long enough. Its a dual cable setup..

Only 1 way, I was able to use the stock cables when I went 15 inches back about ten yrs ago.

I don't have any pics of my cable setup, but it appears that the previous owner may have routed the cable out of the transom in an effort to reduce the angle caused by the additional setback. I have (previously installed) a 10" J/P. I don't think the cable could have exited the oem location and comfortably made the bend w/the J/P. I just thought I'd mention that because it seems that eve a 6" plate might create more of a bend than wanted in your cables.

*NOW. Before I'm chastised... Yeah, I know. I said my setup and "cable" in the same sentence. My current setup is single cable, but I have a new dual nfb coming in this week and plan on installing the helm next week. I also have all the motor end components to hook up a dual cable setup, but I am still in need of a 15' teleflex cable, so if your old ones DON'T work out and they are 15', lemme know and I'll take one of them off your hands.... :)

I agree I have a sharp angle, But its been together for apx. 10 yrs and it works smoothly and simple enough for the wife to get and stay behind the wheel.

Wow! I thought 10" would have been an akward angle. I don't suppose it can get much more akward than 15". So much for my hypothysis.

Well just for reference sake I just installed a 5" setback ( CMC) manual plate on my Eluder and now have it set at about 4" and I'm using the factory " holes". No kinking and no problems with any of the cables. It was a concern of mine too. Plus the previous owner had a hydraulic plate on it ( CMC) and also was using the same cables/set-up. ( He removed it for his next boat)Teleflex steering on this.

I frankly DIDN'T think it was going to work either.

CMC PLate

I added a 5.5 inch CMC plate to my Enticer and the stock cable worked fine. I think thats what flex in Teleflex means.

Doug:cheers
