So Sad....

Well, it's just about officially over. On Friday, I took the pontoon over to the marina for winterizing/shrinkwrap/storage:

First time it's had the cover on it, as it always sits on a covered lift. Took me over an hour to figure out how it snapped on....

Dock guys came out and pulled the last lift and dock sections. Still got the paddle boat and the 12' aluminum boat that can be tossed in the water if I get the urge before the dang lake freezes. It was in the mid-thirties last night. Damn east coast hurricane is sucking all that cold air out of Canada and dragging it across Michigan...

Now I get to putz around with my other long term project:

After almost 3 years in the shop (and 20 years of working on it myself), it made it home. The left rear brake was dragging a bit, it's got a small oil leak, but it made it without a lot of drama.

You've got a great neighbor. I'm probably going to end up going 50/50 on a pole barn with my son, since he's got almost 3 acres. That'll get some, but not all, of our junk indoors.

I'm also leaning toward purchasing a trailer for the pontoon. There are a few sales out there right now on ones that will fit up to 25'. Mine is a shade under 24', and I can't go much over 25' and have it fit under the lift canopy.

He cuts me a pretty good deal for the storage, as I've helped him over the years with things such as a complete transom replacement on his fishing boat two winters ago. That was fun. I think we added at least 250 pounds of buoyancy into the back of the boat by improving the rear floatation and transom situation.

I put mine down yesterday, I was a lazy and made an appointment to get it winterized this time. Now I have 7 months to catch up with things and hopefully find myself a good side job again!

Quick Story,
I took her out two days ago, grabbed what beer I had in the fridge, headed for a last ride and lunch on the water. Well there was fair amount of fisherman and a few cruisers, I was the only performance boat (I thought). About 3 beers into the afternoon I was chugging south along the shoreline looking at the 100 yr old waterfront homes on my way to lunch. That's when I see a performance boat 1/2 mile south of me come off plane, thought he was heading for the ramp or a slip, both located right there. But he just sat, I was kinda stuck in no-mans land, it was another 10 minutes of chugging before I could reach him and open water, no way he'll wait - and he waited- as I came closer I could see he was in an older Baja 25 Outlaw with faded pastel graphics. I recognized him from our first meeting 3 weeks earlier, he was leaving the bar as I was pulling in, My buddy Bryan, the dock tender said " that dude is a clown, but I digress. I knew I was lighter and had a faster bottom then him and with my CMI's I'm pushing close to 502 numbers. So the game was on, thirty yards was between the 2 boats as we lowered the sticks, taking a wide sweeping turn in the river we ran neck to neck, being on the outside I knew once we straightened out I would be gone. Not sure when he called it quits, but as I came off plane he was 300 yds behind. All I can say, That dude waited 10 minutes to have his lunch served up - Cold!
There was a stiff 10/15 mile head wind, Had the ZT up and dancing on the 2 ftrs like the old days of the starflite with 2.5 :thumb:

He does, but only a young son living inside the city!

And I would say if he has a car or truck he is paying about 4-6 Thousand a Month for any kind of Garage Parking.

Chicago, which is in cook county is so expensive that the parking meters now take credit cards. :(
