SPBA Pirate Run...WOW!!

CheckmateFever

Well-known member
Hey ya'll, it's been awhile since i've posted, heck not since this new board has come along and wow is it great, i love the new board! Anyways i was up to Seneca Lake today, New York finger lakes, for the SPBA Poker run and i must say Checkmate was pretty well represented!! A few sweet Convincors, Persuaders, and one hell of a ZT...maybe "Kelly O" I think?? If any of you guy's on here did run the Pirate Run i was there watching...couldn't miss me, i was the one that kept showing up in the way with the blue and white Enchanter lol. Beautifull day for the run today, must have been around 50 or 60 boats, i counted about 7 Checkmates! Awesome show, someday i hope to run the Enchanter in it!!

sounds fun perhaps next year I can run as well:cheers
you should check out the "rondak romp next year...it was nothing far from spectacular

No, i was in a hurry to get to the lake and left the camera sitting on the counter at home, and believe me i'm kicking myself!!! :irked: I was hoping someone here may have been there for the run and has some pictures.

So were is the "rondack romp", sounds like a good time. As for the SPBA Pirate run, there are a few small 16' footers that run in it every year, not Checkmates tho, but Seneca is a pretty big lake and can get whipped up really quickly, that's all i worry about, but 2 years in a row the lake has stayed nice and calm. I may try it next year...looks like as ton of fun!!

There were 76 boats entered. It was a great time, but smooth water is sticky slow. That was me in the ZT. Sorry I did not stop to chat but you want to be near the front to get clean water. My 28 does not eat wakes like the 42's, 45's, or 47's.
Did manage to see 93 on GPS when leaving the Braveheart start. Not bad for flat water, 4 people, and full of fuel. Did find some boost related issues after that blast that kept me out of the speed runs later in the day. Will have those resolved for this weekend.
Did meet Dave Hall with 283 Convincor. Next time hope to visit more, guess my motor issues had me consumed thinking and talking with the big blower guys to get resolved.
Will try to get some pictures posted. Cigrocket took a bunch.

Anybody got a labbed 34 4 blade for sale??

I thought your ZT looked familiar, very sharp looking! I remember seeing pics of the Convincor that was running along with you too, very cool boat :thumb:. The wakes is what scares me about taking the Enchanter on the run, believe me it doesn't like rough water at all!! But i did notice the smaller boats out there, that had to be wild ride for them! I'll be up there for most of the SPBA get togethers, weather and wind permitting, and for the ROPA Poker Run too! Maybe i'll see ya out there! :cheers

Nice meeting you, sweet ZT you have there. I'll bet you suprised a few people on the run. Did you get the motor figured out yet?

Dave Hall

Dave, Last night put valve covers back on after adding two big breather tubes to each one. Tonite will be adding thermostat to oil system.
I believe the cool water temps combined with longer runs at upper boost levels is what caused the venting and pressure issues.
Where do you normally boat ? Think someone with me said you live near Cato ?
Your all-white boat is sharp and I like the purple interior....our high school colors.

Yes, I live in Cato. I boat in Oneida Lake and Cross Lake. Thinking about trying Cayuga Lake some time this summer.

What lake do you boat on?

Dave it was nice meeting you as well. Your mate is sharp looking. I like the hungry fish on the side. The run was alot of fun but being around all the other boats makes you really want your own to be bigger and faster.(the american dream). It was pretty cool seeing all the other checkmates around. There is going to be a dj at the cove on cayuga this sunday would be a good time to come check it out.

Grover is right, Sunday party in the cove with floating DJ will be fun. We mostly boat on Cayuga. Monday PM will be going to Owasco to boat and stay out for fireworks at Emerson Park. Two years ago we had 58 offshore performance boats rafted together for the fireworks.
Also, July 8 the SPBA will be on Cayuga doing a fun run from Ithaca and will be rafting for the afternoon in the cove.
For Owasco, launch at Emerson Park.
For Cayuga, Frontenac Park in Union Springs is nice. The launch slip to the north at Frontenac works best for deep hulls.
See you sometime.....maybe you could show us around Oneida when there is an event there ??

pirates run

Grover it was good meeting you at the run, I have the same 251 as you! I rafted off you at the last stop. Have to agree with you guys it was a good run, can't wait for the next 1. Good showing for checkmate!!! Might be another 1 in AUG on onieda lake anyone know anything about it?

Grover
Nice meeting you also. July 8th sounds like a good time. I'm going to try and make it. Are there any good ramps on Cayuga? If so let me know where.
If you guys ever want to do Oneida Lake, let me know.

Heading out on the 14th of July to Ohio for the Checkmate Poker Run. Did it last year, and it was a blast.

CheckmateFever, had one of those 16 footers run along side of us on the long run up the lake to the last stop. He was docked at the showboat at the end. Black&Yellow with a merc. Not sure what kind. He held a solid 45-50 the whole way, and we were in the wake of the big GUNS!! so Yours should easily take it!

Yeah, i saw the smaller boats, if they can run the whole run i know i could, just have to find the cleanest water. I only top out in the low 60's, so i would only try to run about 40-50 mph for most of the run, i was kinda afraid i'd be left far in the dust running those speeds. Did you have the red and white Convincor? Good lookin' boat man! :thumb: Where do you usaully go boating? I'm always down on the southern end of Seneca, if you're ever that way look me up!
