Starflight differences

OK... I know I am killing you guys with all of my stupid Starflight questions. I know what you are saying... "just buy one and get it over with!" :brickwall: LOL!

I have narrowed it down to two... but I noticed a difference in the two of them. One is an '86 and the other is an '85. I noticed the interiors are different and that the cooler boxes are different in the back.

The '85 has a what I call roll and pleated interior and then a vinyl covered cooler lid. Another thing that is crazy is the white wall under the steering wheel for the cuddy. The guy that has it says it looks original. Also if you look at the grab bar, it is cut to length to match the wall.

The '86 has the smooth vinyl interior with the cooler boxes that have the star embossed into them... so no abnormalities there. The same as all fo the Starflights I see on here.

Here are some pics so that you guys dont think I am crazy!

Anyone know the history of Starflights? What is the up with this '85?

I can tell you why the PO put that 1/2 wall up! he was tired of all his sh!t sliding down into his feet while on his way.As for the cooler covers I'm not sure can't help u there. My 92 has the same side opening vinyl cover lids.Any questions 16 yrs with my starflite!!!:thumb:

There were two different Starflites. The 22 and the 24, merc you have the 24. The 24 was what was on the mold, it had to do with the transom height and not the length. The bottom is slightly different too.

good info...

Coop... this is great info. So do you know anymore about this? Or is there a history guy at checkmate that I might be able to contact? You have peaked my interest now. So I am wanting to find out more about these differences?

Thanks!

I have an 87 with the side opening vinyl cooler covers. you can see them a bit in the photo I took when I first got the boat.

EDIT: not to be mean or anything but it is actually Starflite not Starflight. This can help with google searches and stuff as it is a common mistake.

Flight-flite, when you are typing fast, sometimes its hard to stop and think.

LilSki, please snap a picture of the bottom rear of the boat, there should be a notch at the rear, and a notch on each side at the rear.

The motor wells are also a little different between the two models.

Lilski,

how does your boat ride? Have you ridden in one that has the fiberglass cooler lids? Does it really make that big of a difference? I did notice some transom pictures of other Starflites... they did not have those cut outs...

That would explain why I have yet to see any starflites quite like mine. I've always seen the coolers that hinge on the back and wondered why mine were different.

Unfortunately I have never been in any checkmates other than mine so I cannot compare my boat to anything. And I must say I spent a lot of time behind my boat the last few weeks and never noticed the notches until I took these shots.

But I can say that the boat does 61 on a good day with zero setback as you can see. The boat is solid as a rock with no signs of chine walk and is very predictable. I have heard that these hulls start to chine around 65 but I am not there yet. I am running a 24P trophy prop if that makes any difference to anyone.

Also the motor well is different on mine but I don't have any pics of it. The forward wall has a step in mine that the other ones don't.

Just for kicks I looked at JTs and found a shot of his transom to compare to mine.

Hope you don't mind JT

EDIT: I found a pic that shows the step in the motor well. This is when I first got the boat.

No problem. If anything I post is a help to others then this forum is worthwhile and a great asset. Here is where I got most of my information!
