Starflight Props

I think it's the other way around. OMC hubs and shafts are longer than the Merc. I have a Renegade on my 200 EFI Merc. The nyloc prop nut will not go all the way on. I found a brass castle nut and drilled the shaft for a cotter pin. Now I can run 15 spline OMC, Merc or Yammie props.

Merc shafts have LONGER splines (say 2")... OMC's uses shorter splines (say 1-1/2"). You can monkey around with washers and such to get the merc props onto an OMC, but the nut has issues with going all the way on correctly (or cotter pin). The correct way is to have the merc long splines cut to the correct OMC length inside the prop or re-hub it with OMC.

On the flip side, the OMC props WILL go right onto a MERC with ZERO mods.

I hvae a '90 21 Starflight, which I love.
It originally came with an '89 200 Merc Black Max bolted to the transom. This is the 2.4L engine.
Well, loose screws on the reed cage and ka-pow, there went my 200.
Anyways, I ran a 23p Laser II and was happy with it. It would turn 5.9-6K with 2 people onboard, and run 60-62 mph. I never got to try the tempest, but I'd guess the 25 is too much, espically without a jack plate or set-backs.
I now run a 2.5 245 with a 12" rapid-jack. I now run 22p big ear chopper at 7.3K and run 75-76 mph.
Good Luck!

Re-check your raker pitch... the 15 spline rakers come in EVEN pitches (20, 22, 24, 26). The Raker is an EXCELLENT prop!

For all you "I didn't know that's"... The OMC 15 spline props WILL WORK on a MERC, but the Merc's will NOT WORK on an OMC (merc prop hub splines are longer). </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I'll double check it? It may be a 26" labbed down to spin like a 25"? I got it from "Rule1" over at Scream And Fly. He has a prop shop refinishes props.
