Starflite getting wet!

JT have you thought about tinting the windows black like Ross did on his boat? I think that would look great against the white. I've got to repaint my window frame then tint the windows black on the Enforcer. What colors are the logos?

I had my frames powder coated in a satin black. I thought about black tint on the glass but it has the factory tinted glass. I will have to go back in the posts to see what Ross's looked like. That may be one of the projects for next winter. I just don't want to go too far with the black and white theme.

Don't laugh, but the logos and the Checkmate name are in black. I think I have tunnel vision when it comes to color. I have absolutly no artistic imagination. I am all mechanical. There are no curves in my thought patterns. Everything is dots and straight lines to connect them. Ever hear of K.I.S.S. ? I think that must be my middle name somewhere.

I'm bad.

Looking good, derigging my ride tonight to prep for paint!!!

Thanks for the compliment.

Do you think you will be back on the water before the month is out?
It is a heck of a time to take things apart.

Are you going to post pictures of your rework, as you go along?

LOL!! I understand, but you need to let Brian paint some graphics on there for ya. I'm sure he can come up with something you'll like.:thumb: I've tried the K.I.S.S. method, but my problem is I can't leave it alone, always tinkering, tweaking stuff.:brickwall:

Yeah I give myself a two week window to get it back on the water, I know thats fast but Im a single guy witha nine to fiver, so i can bury myself into it pretty easy, tonight i pretty much derigged everything except the mota, which is disconnected just needs to be lifted off the transom, so tomorrow night will be sanding and prepin for paint paint primer thursday night, sand paint second coat of primer if needed friday, saturday and sunday big paint days, next week to finish details and get back together, probably get wet before i finish wet sanding and buffing, but im ok with that....

It's official...I LOVE the Starflite hull! Man it looks good. Especially in the water...it just looks fast, even sitting still. The whole package screams speed!

The white is a great look! Very unique! I have a picture of a gleaming white boat with a stars and stripes theme down the sides and across the long deck. I'm a patriotic fellow, though. Doesn't work for everyone.

That is a nice ambitious schedule you have set for yourself.
The primer I used (epoxy) let me apply 2 coats without sanding in
between. That saved a lot of time. Both wet coats complete
in 2 hours.

You won't loose too much boating time. Sounds good.

I have looked at several flag type checker graphics that would start on the fore deck, drop down the side just before the windshield and end at the transom. It was just a little too pricey for my wallet, approx $ 850.00.

Thanks for the compliment. Just about everyone that looks at it on the trailer says the same as you. It is just a bit on the sterile side right now.

Set up help.

DON'T SHOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got to put the Starflite in the water today. The guy that was going to
take pictures for me didn't show. But, I was satisfied with the results of the run anyway.:bounce::banana::bounce:

819 lb payload that included fuel, gear and 3 passengers. I thought I was only going to have one passemger. Took a GPS that worked. Running in a 12" to 18" chop against a 4 mph tide and 15 mph wind I got 62 mph. Same 14-1/2 x 22P Raker prop as last time. Couldn't trim out very much before the RPM's wanted to go over 6000. Even with all that weight, it looks as if I still need more pitch on my prop.

Now it is time to ask for suggestions from the forum. I do have a 14-1/2 x 24P Raker that I can put on. Will that be enough or too much or not enough pitch?

I am going to try the 24P this weekend. Is there anything I should look for? Since this is all new to me I am humble enough to ask lots of ? before I do something stupid.

You'll like the 24p raker, just ask Trey(Caddman). He tried my 24P on the 175HP johnson and love it. I also spin a 24P raker on the rude 250hp.

Looking good!

JT,

thing looks great! Just curious, what is your hole shot like with that prop and that many people. I have the same prop that I tried this past weekend with 3 total passengers and mine would barely get out of the hole. It finally got there, but it was like zero to plane in 30 seconds. Also, how far below the bottom of the hull is your prop centerline?

Thanks!
Mike

yeap the 24 raker is nice!! watch your rpms... mine were a little low but i have some tings that has my power down, and i plan to build more power, I still have crazy hole shot and mid but my old fishin mota just doesnt like to turn up, i have bad reeds and stuff so its kind of understandable for me....if it 5500+ I would say its a good size for ya, if its under its to much pitch, if its over 6200 its not enough pitch, if that will help ya out...

The hole shot wasn't that bad. I was able to get up on plane in fairly quick. I think it took about 5 seconds and I was able to pull the throttle back to 3500 and maintain plane. It did stand up tall when I first hit the throttle. As for the prop center location I will measure that to day and let you know tonight.

The rpm's will climb past 6000 if I don't pull the throttle back, even with that payload. The guy I bought the motor from told me the compression was 100 to 105 but I think it is a little higher than that, it just has such a strong acceleration. I will try the 24P on Sunday when I take the wife out for the first time this year. She got a little jealous because she wasn't the first to go out. But, she has to go to work so I can play. Good thing she doesn't read this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 25P renegade I tried over the weekend spooled up 6000 rpm before catching, but that's because I didn't have the weed ring. I can turn the 26P raker as well. From the pictures it looks like you've got the motor bolted low on the transom. My wife doesn't read the forum either unless I show her something.:rof:

Robie,

I used the original Checkmate mounting height and the second hole in the motor bracket. With the pin in the second hole and the motor trimmed down the outer edge of the cav plate is 1/4" above the "V" at the corresponding width. I have to check the prop shaft location in comparasion to the bottom of the "V". I will give you that dimension later today and you can advise me if it should be corrected.

It's not a raker but I am running a 24P Trophy plus 4 blade and love it. Great hole shot and top end. I had 8 people in my boat with a 3/4 tank of fuel last summer and I still got out of the hole. I don't usually pack my boat with that many people but my friends boat was sinking lol.

I'll agree with the looks of the starflite. I can't help but look at mine when it is just sitting at the dock.

The plain white looks good but I think it at least needs a different color to run down the bow in those recesses. What color checkmate decals are you putting on there?

I have used a black rub rail set. The Checkmate logo at the rear quarters
will have black lettering. If I use a multi color on the letters it will not be easy to read from a distance. There will be a black horsehead just under the gunwhale. The head may have a thin red accent outline around the edges of it. The inset area in the center of the fore deck will have some striping in black and red (Red maybe). I am going to take it one piece at a time. Add what I like as I get a feel for it.

I am not an artistic type of person. It takes a lot for me to get a feel for
something.
