Starflite reassembly

I know I have asked before but, what color will it be?

Since time is running out to get ready for this season I will be making it all white. "DON'T SHOOT". A friend has a sign shop and will do some graphics for the short term. My wife wanted the original paint scheme
but when she saw the deck primed in white she changed her mind. She thinks white with the black on black rub rail and the dark gray tinted glass in the windshield will look good. That provides me with a way out for this season. Next winter season I can make any changes. this winter was mainly a structural work in progress. I bought new seats from the factory with the original colors. That saved me a lot of work.

Milestone? That does say alot. Did I say "I HATE SANDING"?
I do it with fabricating Corian but this is more tedious.

LOL, I HATE SANDING also!!! I have invested in GOOD D/A sanders. I have been doing it so long now I can block with the D/A and get it about 95% perfect. Then a little touch up with hand blocks and I am good to go. I even prep for paint with my D/A now, 400 dry is perfect for base/clear, if its a real nice custom job I will do 600 dry:bigthumb:

Brian,

I have 4 DA sanders. Two of them have the mechanical drive as well as the free orbit. I forgot to bring them with me. One has a 11" diameter pad. Tomorrow I will have them with me. The Starflite design has a lot of narrow flat facits and small radius inside corners. That makes for slow going.
The paint shop told me to wet sand with 400 for the Imron prep. Wet slows down the progress. I can prime OK but I am not good enough to play with Imron.

Boat is looking good. You've put a lot of work into it. Should be a real nice ride when it's done. Can't wait to see the graphics. :thumb:

Good luck with the knee. I tore mine up a few years ago, torn ACL and partial MCL. The MCL came back, ACL is gone. Knee will try to go out on me once in a while if I move wrong, but other than that I get around fine and do what I want.

Hows the Glen L coming along? I'm still thinking about doing one.

LOL, aint that always the way it is. Got peanut butter but no bread kind of thing:brickwall:.

The 400 wet is about the same as 320 d/a. If you were near me, I would say bring it to me and I would squirt it out for ya. The work is in the prep, not the paint as you know:thumb:

The Glen-L was put on hold to get the Checkmate rebuilt. Once the Mate
is in the water I will start back up on the Crackerbox.

Brian,

Thanks for the offer. It is too bad the Cmate owners are spread all over the country. HobieHernandez is just up the road. He Pm'd me today to tell me he delivered to my shop last year and I didn't know it.
Have you ever heard of Mercur sanding pads?. I have them in 360 grit that are put on the DA and used wet. I will try those tomorrow on the front deck where there is a large flat area. My cousin who builds fiberglass boats will stop by tomorrow for a few hours to help get the sanding done so I can finish the gel coating on the bottom. After that the bottom goes to the painter. Hopefully I will start reassembling the boat over the Memorial weekend. I need to have the boat finished and running for the 4th of July weekend when I go up to the 1000 Islands for 2 days.

Jim
