Starflite steering cable length??

Well-known member
Does anyone know how long the steering cables are on the Starflite? My boat is too far away to measure. thanks

I am seriously thinking of changing to hydraulic steering over the winter
along with a 6" jackplate.
When at WOT it take both hands to make a left turn. And I need to get the shaft up to 3-1/2" from 6-1/2".

Similiar situation with my Pulsare with respect to the old steering, I find it tough in and around the docks.

I wonder if someone has the No Feedback that could offer some feedback !!!

I had the teleflex no feedback on my old boat, I figured the $ for dual cable no feedback was better than spending more $ on hydraulic, it worked awesome for 4 years and I was very happy with it, one day at 80 mph it gave me so much feedback that it ripped the wheel out of my hands and the boat turned right as hard as it could and barrel rolled.

I got lucky with just a dislocated shoulder and from that day on it's hydraulic only for me, when I bought my Checkmate I put hydraulic on before I even went and tried the boat.

Edit: I never found out what went wrong with it because the engine broke away from the bracket and ripped the cables off so everything was trashed, my mota was hanging off the back of the boat by the trim ram that was bent at a 90 degree angle.

It ended up costing 7k to fix everything and it could have been prevented with hydraulic steering.

Steering

Had the dual nfb steering for quite a few years. Much better than standard, but when running motor high it would still pull hard even with torque tamer. Finally broke down and spent $1000. for Seastar Pro. Worth every penny, would not go back. Steers like a car with power steering even with motor raised at high speed.:thumb::thumb::thumb:
