Welcome to the forum! The motor is buried to deep and you've got the wrong prop for that motor. You'll need at least 6" jackplate, second the motor needs to be at least 3 1/2" from center line of prop to the bottom of the boat. Lastly you need a different prop like a 24 P Raker prop. Hopefully folks that have starliners will chime in and help.

So go from the center line of prop shaft 3.5 inches below bottom of boat.I was thinking a 8 inch jack or would you stick with a 6 inch. I think even with out a jack plate should be upper 50s?thanks for the help.

I had that same set up on my Starliner when I got it. With a 6 inch jack, propshaft about 3.5" below the bottom and a 24 Raker it'd run 63 consistently. Personally, I'm not a big fan of adding a ton of set back. The transom (in particular the knees) in those boats is not strong enough for it and while it might gain you a couple of MPH it will lessen the ability of the boat to do other thing like stay on plane at low speeds for tubing and skiing. Once I went to a 250 Merc the boat would really air out nicely even though it only had 6 inches of set back.

Your motor is way too deep and the Mirage is the wrong prop. They have too much blade surface and are too hard to spin with a small block outboard. They made made for V8 I/Os.

ATC is right on the money with 3 1/2 below and 6" setback. 8" will work if your transom is strong but you are not going to see a big improvement. That hull will never be a rocket ship with a 200. But you can get it running very nicely and have a great rig. Personally I would look for a 23 Renegade 4 blade over a Raker. They turn easy and handle the engine height and have great grip. I ran a 25 Renegade on a very strong 200 EFI but I don't think your motor will have the same jam given the rpm you are seeing now.

I have the Starflite with the 3L Johnson 200hp. Prop shaft is at 6" (too low) no set back (mounted to the transom), 24P Raker and I can easily wind the RPM past 6000 (not good - need more pitch). I GPS'd at 62 mph (best run - ideal conditions).

This set up runs ok in a straight line doesn't turn worth a chit (blow out) unless I drop back to 3200 rpm.

I resto'd the transom/ stringer way beyond factory specs and should have 6 to 8 inch jack plate with prop set at 3-1/2" (and 300+hp).

As others have stated, motor is mounted too low. Set it up right and with a jack plate (6' or 8' is good) but if you can't get a jack plate still raise it on the transom. Then, see what it will do before you invest in a prop. But, sounds like atcr250 had the same setup so he would be a great resource. I like some of mercury props and you can find them to test and buy used etc. The Laser 2, Tempest are probably good for what you're looking for. I run a laser 2 on my 21 pulsare with Merc 200 efi and I love it, 23p - 70 mph. I've tried lots of props too.

thanks for all the help.will look for a raker.time to sell all my mercury props I guess.will go with a 6-8 set back no more than that.i would like to find a v max 225 or evinrude 225ho to upgrade.

And don't count out the Renegade. They work very well on the Johnson and will be great for water sports as well. Easy to find used and will be way better in the turns than 3 blade.

I got a 25 Renegade from someone on here. It didn't appear to have been fiddled with but it was terrible on my boat. Slipped like crazy all over the place. Doesn't make sense but that's what it did.

What mercury props do you have? I wouldn't sell them yet, until you've tried them with new setup.

also have a starliner with a 200 johnson gt with 23p (i think) raker 3 blade bolted directly to the transom. trimmed out we regularly see 60 mph on gps with 2 people and a full tank at 5750 rpm. 58 with 4 and a full tank. i thought all of the gt motors were 20" shafts, could be wrong, but sounds like you might have a 25"?
