stator issues

ok so ill openly admit this is backyard work.... that said I have a 74 Johnson 135 model # 135esl74b ser # j4001733 that has no spark due to a overheated stator you can see the stuff inside melted out its a no brainer.
I also have a 78 85hp model # 85895c ser# j00028227 that's become a parts motor. the gearcase or lower unit was used to replace the one on the 135hp after I found it full of water.
the 135 has the better heads as well as the "hump back" so im trying to keep it alive. the stator/mag assy looks close enouff to work but im just not sure. has anyone tried this swap before ??? I know the coils mount differently but I belive a simple wire change will do it. there wiring is very close as well as the bolt holes and timing ring. any help at all????
I need some input from some rude dudes.
thanx in advance

well ok so mercs must be the motor I guess.... anyway on a chance I lucked up and found a 175 for 200. cant go wrong there but im still going to try the swap this weekend a see if it can be done. ive already milled the new coil brackets and all the timing pick up and stator seem to be bolt on.... ill get some pics up Monday or tuseday were hitting masonboro island all weekend
