Stereo without headunit.

I am starting to look at audio systems for the trimate II. My current plan is to forgo a head unit for the basic reason that i do not want to sacrifice dash or glovebox space for a head unit. My plan is to just run a 4 channel amplifier with 4 speakers and plug an ipod straight into the amplifier. I could also plug my portable sirius unit in. My plan is to get this amplifier http://www.amazon.com/Channel-400-W...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1259109516&sr=8-17 I realize that pyle is not necessarely a good name in electronics, but its cheap and it is going on a recreational vehicle, i do not feel right spending soo much money on an audio system that, compared to my truck, wont get listened to very often. I also have heard that anymore automotive speakers are not much different from marine, as long as they have polypropylene cones. so I plan on getting some sony automotive speakers. Comments or concerns?

I completely agree, i am a hobbiest/part time DJ and know the difference between good and crap. However, how long would you expect that amp to last with weekly use, the boat covered while not in use, and stored in the garage in the winter?

only prob is the ipod only has a 1 volt or less output for audio. most low end head units have 2 volt and high end units have 4 volt outputs. the Ipod connected direct will work but you will not get the full potential from your amp. there are pre-amps available to boost the rca voltage up to 8 volts. these can be used in place of a head unit. A higher input voltage will result in a cleaner sound.

Did you read my post over on scream and fly? I suggested those very two items. :p

As for the Pyle amp.......... you may be happy with it. However, it will use more power than it puts out. I would look for used quality brand name amp. The sound will be better all around. :bigthumb:

ha ha i was wondering if someone would notice that :P... yes and thank you it was very good advice. i do my research :thumb:

EDIT: as for the amp i will continue to keep an eye out for a better quality unit for a good deal, who knows what i will end up with, haha. As for power, my current battery is getting older so i will probably buy a new batter for the boat and run a two battery setup with the radio ran off the older battery, with a battery switch.
