THE 80 MPH MARK WHATS IT TAKE ?

WHAT SIZE OUT BOARD MOTOR DOES IT TAKE TO GET A NEW 20-21 FT CHECKMATE TO HIT THE 80 MPH MARK ? IT SEEMS LIKE THIS NUMBER IS HARD TO HIT WITH OUT GING TO A 250XS OR BIGGER. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE RUN A VMAX 225 OR 250 ? I WOULD LIKE TO HERE HOW THEY COMPARE TO THE MERC'S:bigthumb:

I'm pretty sure you're not going to see 80 on a GPS running anything less than a 250. You can modify a 3.0L 225 to see more than 80:thumb: Typical 225 will probably see 73-77 and a hi-perf 250 will get you 77-82. I'm not sure how the newer hulls handle the HP but most of these speeds will be with optimized setups(props, setback, jackplate, etc.)

I'm sure some one may have a non black motor and may be eclipsing these marks ?! I base my numbers off my 2000 2100 Pulsare. It started with a stock 225EFI 3.0L(73 mph GPS) after some gradual upgrades I'm looking at 83.6 mph GPS as my fastest speed this summer/spring. I'm hoping for an 85 mph pass this fall with the warmer water temps and cool/cold air temps.

I know some of the very new Checks are coming with the option of Merc or Evinrude. May be some one can chime in on their new Etech power and speed ?!

To the best of my recollection, I had the following numbers in the pulsares (21') that I had:

225hp Promax (2000): 77mph
300hp Promax (2000): 85mph
300XS (2008): 90+mph

THANKS 4 THE INFO. LOOKING INTO GETTING 21FT O/B AND POWERING IT WITH 3.3L VMAX 250 AND BEING ABLE TO RUN 80.
A BUDDY OF MINE HAS 2008 20 FT O/B WITH YAMAHA 250 SALT WATER WITCH IS AROUND 230-235HP HAS 10" JACK PLATE + 2" SPACER. MOTOR IS AT AROUND 2.5 BELOW PAD WITH 27 4 BLADE PROP TURNING 6200 RPM. HE WAS GETTING 74 ON GPS. HE BLOW IT UP ON FIRST RUN OF THE SPRING. HE FORGOT TO TIGHTEN REED CAGE BOLTS AFTER INSTALLING AFTERMARKET REEDS AND TUNER OVER THE WINTER. TOOK OUT TO CYLINDERS. REPOWERED WITH NEW 3.1 L 250 VMAX POWER HEAD. HOPING FOR 77 TO START WITH. SHUTTING FOR 80. WILL START BRAKING NEW POWER HEAD IN THIS COMING WEEK. SET UP IS HARD WITH YAMI, THERE IS NO ONE OUT THERE WITH ANY INFO ON SET UP.
