tired...stock 502

I'm so freaking tired of working on this stupid 598. How much is a stock 502? Anyone got a good one? I'm about to give up on this race motor crap. Another beautiful day spent working on the boat.

How much is a stock 502?
I've seen them run from under $5k to $15k+. Depends if you want used, rebuilt, remanufactured, or new. EFI or Carb?

Here's a rebuilt 502 MPI: https://www.offshoreonly.com/classifieds/mercury-502-mpi-415hp-fully-rebuilt-0-hours-o64881.html

Couple more on that site, and a few on eBay too. (yeah, I'm looking....)

Another beautiful day spent working on the boat.

Well, it beats me sitting at work today (and tomorrow) :(

I left it parked today. Rode around the crownline. What should I do? Thinkin about pulling it and having it rebuilt re dynoed and starting over

Careful what you wish for.......Anyhow thanks to all you Vets....if not for you none of us would be able to meet here ....or enjoy such a free expression of views....hope you all have a great day.!!!

Hang in there, Bud. If you picked up stock motor then you do have some options. Buys you time to rebuild and sell the one you have now or drop it back in and sell the stock motor.

I been experiencing a part throttle heavy load miss. I have been through the carb. Just did a full tune up. Took the distributor all apart cleaned it and put it back together with new parts. I just drove it to the trailer it's missing so bad it so t get on plane.and that was me by myself. I just popped off the valve covers and all my rockers and pushrods are in place. Over the winter I did a leakdown and compression check and everything was actually really good. I guess I'm going to start looking at possible leaking intake gasket. Ormaybe there is something going on with the cam and lifters. Whatever it is I drove it three times this weekend and it has gradually gotten worse so whatever is broke is broke. I been dealing with a similar issue for a few years. It comes and goes. But like I say now it's finally broke. Maybe I should pull the msd box and get it checked. And no I have no idea who that guy is and ha a never talked to him before.

Good trick to find vacuum leak is leave boat on trailer put it under a load and pass a propane torch not lit around... if its a manifold leak the rpm will pick up...might help..? Have had spark plug wires do this also...water in fuel...fuel line sucking air..good luck...

You said MSD. Those are notorious for failing as of lately. The distributor modules tend to fail as do the CD boxes. I would be looking there first! Grab a Davis Unified Ignition distributor and rock on.

If leak down looks good, oil looks good, compression good.....i doubt it is the motor.

Had a MSD on mine and had a bad knock under cruising speed.
Happened just slightly before and didn't think much of it.
Thought I broke something
Took off the msd and coil and replaced everything back to stock.
Never happened again and threw the msd away.
