Tom Stickle's twin engine 18'

Back in the day,maybe 1967,Hot Boat Mag was just getting started,it was all black and white photos on rough paper,but they covered the racing scene well. I remember a photo of a young Tom Stickle,standing by his 18' Checkmate with twin 110 Mercs,just after he won the NOA Nationals in Knoxville,TN.Classic photo from the old days,can't post it cause I sent Tom the mag maybe 20 years ago. An 18' flatdeck Checkmate with twin 110's would be way cool even today.Imagine cruising your local lake in a 40 year old boat like this.Good memories.

All you guys are going to get me addicted to this site. The # 431 15' tunnel looks so familair,but I can't make out the name. I know it's a factory race boat since it is orange and black like the MX-13 Bill built for me in 1973.Who drove #431? I should know,but I am too old for the details.Seems like #431 was Charlie Craig from Clanton,Al,but that's not the name on the cowl.

These are some KOOL pic's! Not to take away from the original subject, but it's kinda strange that these pic's of twin's are on here this morning. Just last night, I got a new magazine with a picture of a bass boat with twin's. I think it was a Challenger and the motors were twin 225 Mariner's. According to the article, it was good for 96 mph on radar! boatman
 
Here is a TRV17 race boat. I beleive this is FG class where there had to be a "mechanic" on board. Cool shot!

Correction!!! I'd pay to be in that seat But I'd DIE to be the drivers seat a few times!

That is one awesome shot. I don't know how much wrenching that mechanic could actually be doing on that sucker at speed.
Yeah, I'd like to be the bag-o-sand in that one.
 
Talked to Gary Erwin today. He said it would be allright if I took some pictures of TRIPS TO WIN. It is the only Checkmate that I know of that has three Mercs on it. He says he hasn't had it in water since he painted it. The insurance was an issue with trips on it.
 
Awesome thread, love the pictures. I can't wait to see the Check with trips on it and I can't imagine how fun it would be to get behind the wheel of it:thumb:
 
These are some great pics......that TRV17 is sweet....that looks like one he!! of a ride! I can't wait to see the triple check either!
