Trailer Question

Member
I have a 1980 Entertainer that is 20' 8". I still use the original trailer that came with the boat when it was bought. It is made by Tullahoma Trailers out of Tennessee, and it's steel I beam constructed. The trailer still seems to be in good working order, but it's pretty rusted. I've been considering buying a newer aluminum trailer to replace it, but where is a good place to look? How much will I have to plan on spending? Anyone have any advice/experience they can share? Thanks,

You should be able to get a new galvanized steel trailer for right around $2000 depending on what kind it is and how many options you go with. It not aluminum but galvanized it meant to deal with the corrosion as well and will save a bunch of money.

Im not from anywhere near there so i cant really tell you where to look and a lot of the websites are a lot better for boats and almost totally forget about trailers. Probably the best thing to do is just start calling around.

Depending on the amount of money you want to spend and what type you're looking for I can offer you this....I went looking for a trailer two years ago for my 251 Convincor. I searched and compared many manufacturers and found Fastload Trailers in Florida to have the best deal. They are custom made, I believe they got the dimensions from the Checkmate factory. The trailer I purchased was an aluminum I-beam trailer, Cypress bunks, tandem axle, stainless disk brakes with Synflex brake lines. I couldn't be happier with the trailer and their customer service was excellent. I believe I paid about $3,200 and they delivered it here to Massachusetts. Here's their website:

Tropic trailers out of FL also make nice custom al eye beam trailers at a great price. check out their web site for prices and sizes.

Well, in my opinion, I would take you existing trailer to a metal fab/body shop that was able to sand blast then paint it, or have it blasted and paint it yourself. Thats a lot of money to spend on a trailer, that has nothing to do with the perforamnce of your boat. TheNerd
