transom overhaulin!!!

im about to do my transom and 175checkmate you did a fantastic job on yours. i need some info on what tools you used for this job and around what price, i have some guy that will do it for 800 bucks but i have to buy the wood. what do you guys think about it, is it worth just sending it out to get it done or doing it myself, i do have some experience on fiberglassing. here's some pic of my transom.

$800 is not to bad a price at all. I was quoted $1500 to do mine. In just the transom I have 2 4x8 sheets of plywood and about $200 in glass and resin. The tools I used where a scraper, 8" grinder, hammer, and about $30 worth of grinding disc's. I think if I figured in my labor it would have been more than $800.
I would have a good look at some of the work the guys has done prior to yours. Find out if the price include gel matching the repair to the hull, and how he plans to reseal the top cap of the transom.

he's not going to gel match it, he's just going to replace the old wood and he'll have it sand down already for paint... he works @ a boat place building boats down south in florida by the keys dont know where and he dows jobs like mine on the side
