Trim = Busties... Help

So today I went out to de-winterize the boat. Put the battery back in and hooked 'er up. Raised the motor up and drained my lower unit, lowered it let it drain all out. Checked the plugs, then raised the motor back up (I forget why).

Went to put it back down and no dice... The trim motor makes noise, but the engine simply won't drop (and yes, I swung out the trailering tabs) put a little bit of pressure on the motor...no movement.

I climbed in only to see a very slight amount of hydro leaking at a fitting. Stuck a rag under it b/c it's right next to the fuel cell and I can't figure out how to work on it other than removing the entire shell.

Even so, wouldn't the motor go DOWN without fluid or a leak in the system? I would think it just wouldn't go UP? It seems to go up just fine when I hit the trailering button (it moves the last 1/4" or so again).

Could this be a stuck valve or something? What am I looking at?

Thanks

did you run it all the way to the top until it stopped? if so the piston may be cocked. it would still go down with no fluid.

sounds like the valve is stuck closed and wont release pressure. you could try unhooking the hose SLOWLY but that will be really messy.

I've dealt with busted hyrdo lines on the tractor. NOT something I'd like to have inside my boat. Could I disconnect it from the cylinders on the motor? And how do I go about tracing it to the correct valve?

i dont think you have an up or down valave on that trim. isnt it just a continuos loop of fluid? the pump spins one way to push fluid in and lift. then the pump spins the other way and pulls fluid out to lower.

take a pic of your pump setup.

try lifting the enginge up as you hit the lower button. this will un-cock the pistons if they are infact jammed.

I just rigged the trim in my boat...

I had a problem where i was able to trim down (after getting it up once) but wasn't able to get it (the motor that is LOL) up again.

It turned out that I was low on fluid and had some air in the line.

I know this sounds stupid, but did you check the fluid level (on mine there is a little plastic flat head screw with a dipstick. It is located right between where the lines come out of the pump)?

I am assuming this is an external pump.

Had a buddy trim it down while I held the motor. Worked like a charm! Goes both directions now. However, I still have to address the fluid issue before I feel comfortable out on the water.

I need to stick my hand back in there and find the resevoir. It's so damn hard to see/do anything in that little tiny cavity. DAMN YOU PREDICTOR!

I need a bigger boat!
