Trim Plates

I have these trim plates on the back on both sides of my Enchanter. I was told by a few guys to take them off. Don't really do much and at speed if one goes down or malfuntions could roll my boat. Info please. Thanks. You can see them in the picture They are about 8x8 inches.

The only thing I would think they could do is help the low speed porpoise that all checkmates seem to have. If one were to go down at speed they are probably too far/high out of the water to cause and extremely ill effects
 
They are right down even with the bottom of the hull. In the picture you can see it resting on the bunk of the trailer.
