Trim Tabs 1979 Exciter

SKRAMER

I was going to put trim tabs on my 18' Exciter. Only for the reason to get the bow down in Rough water. I was informed that trim tabs are a bad idea on this hull. Any info would be great. Pros and Cons?? Anyone have them on an Exciter? Thanks Scott

I don't have them on my boat and never thought I needed them. After installing 10" of setback, using the engine trim does all that I need. Trimming all the way down will push the bow down, even at idle. The trim changed the ride attitude prior to installing the setback, but it is more exaggerated now.

I have a set of smart tabs that I will sell for cheap if you are interested. They are the SS version. I do not remember the size of the tabs, but when I get home, I will drag them out and check. Smart tabs adjust them selves according to speed. I have used them on 2 different boats with good results. Really nice for keepng the bow down while planing out. If you can use them, $50 plus the ride.

Smart tabs or a hydrofoil on your cavitation plate. i put on a set back bracket and raised the engine and it made a big difference in handling and usability.
