Trim Tabs to help planing?

I am having trouble getting my 89 Sportfire on plane. until it gets up to about 3500 RPM it just goes along in a squat. will trim tabs help me get the boat on plane when accelerating and while traveling at slower speeds? thanks

While I am not an expert on that particular boat, it would seem to me that if you are having that much trouble getting on plane, there may be a deeper problem here. Did this boat always act this way? Are you running the correct prop? What rpm can you get at full throttle? What is the conditon of the motor?

I USED TO A RUN A 89 SPORTFIRE 10YRS AGO. AND I REMEMBER THAT IT WAS SLOW TO COME ON PLANE. NEEDED TO HAVE A PERSON STAND IN CENTER OFF THE SEATS AT THE DASH TO GET ON PLANE WHEN PULLING TUBE/SKIER. MAYBE YOU CAN BUY SOME NEGITIVE TRIM WEDGES THAT FIGHT BETWEEN THE TRANSOM AND THE MOTOR AT 2 DEGREES APEICE. ALLOWING YOUR MOTOR TO BE TUCKED UNDER MORE, FORCING THE BOW DOWN AT TAKE OFF THEN JUST TRIM IT OUT AFTER THAT.

merc25 hit the nail on the head. Neg trim wedges will help out a great deal. This will allow you to tuck the motor in a bit further.

i have the right prop, the motor is in good condition and i have had it up to about 6000rpm.
i will look into the neg trim wedges. Trim tabs not a good idea though or the wedge seems better?

wedges less intruesive , less expensive , remember anything in the water creates drag. i just don't know how effective tabs would be in this situation. would the last fix on the my list.

another fix can be "dare i say it" a planning fin/foil. you one those dorky looking plastic fins that you screw to your cavation plate. you will plane faster but again create more drag.

HYD. TRIM TABS WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO. YOU CAN BURY THE TABS DOWN TO HELP BRING YOU ON PLANE AND THEN RAISE THEM AS YOU INCREASE SPEED. THE CAN ALSO BE USED TO BALANCE THE BOAT WHEN YOU HAVE MORE WEIGHT ON ONE SIDE THAN THE OTHER OR ARE RUNNING DIAGONLLY INTO A STRONG HEADWIND.

I installed a set of hyd tabs on my Enchanter last winter, they worked out better than I could have ever hoped. I can now bury the tabs and plane at 14 MPH or bring them up and run the same top end as before. They work really nice when the lake is getting all choped up with boat wakes, I can plant the nose a little and the boat rides like a big heavy slug.
I added a set of trim wedges last year, they helped but not as much as I wanted, next I will take them back out because they're not neccesary and I want the positive trim back for the accasional BIG ROOST.
I bought the wedges from Overtons, and the tabs came off of Vinny P's boat. Thanks again Vinny.
