trim up troubles

Power trim on my 1990 vision 221 alpha drive only goes up with the trailer button if drive is all the way in down postion trim will start to go up for a second but stop, I do not know if it is my solenoid or trim limiter or what:brickwall: can any of you experts give me a clue:thumb:

I think you are right on with your first guess- trim limiter. The trailer and trim up buttons do the same thing, but the trim up switch can be disabled by the trim limit contact. The trailer switch is wired without any interposing contact. So, you can either just use the trailer button, or bypass the trim limiter by splicing the two wires attached to the trim limiter together. If you want to do it RIGHT, you'll fix the trim limiter switch.
I personally bypassed my trim limiter a long time ago because I didn't like the trailer button, and wanted more positive trim than the default stop.

Top is right - trim senders are shot, mercury sells them as a kit, replace both the sender and limit switch and be done with it. you'll also need 4 new screws as they will probably break as you try to remove them.

Thanks alot guys I got a manual and I figured it out, I had to adjust my trim limiter, pretty easy as it turned out, but thanks for the info.
