Trimate Top Speeds

I saw a post for other boat top-speeds...What are some for the trimates Minie is a 77 trimate IV 140mercruiser, not sure what pitch the prop is (old michigan wheel no pitch #'s on it) but at 4200 (wot) its running 45-48 depending on the day. Tried turning a merc 4 blade 18" pitch, will let the engine go past 5000 rpm (still throttle left) 4000 rpm gives me around 35mph I'm assuming a 21" 3 blade should be better for top speed

dude, I have the same boat. With a worn motor and a 21p ss prop I ran about 50mph. your max rpm should be 4600-4800rpm. I am thinking of going to a 22p cleaver. My motor is being rebuilt this weekend so I will have some new numbers in a few weeks.

nu2it, a cleaver is not a good prop on the trimate. Been there done that. Hole shot is junk as well as top speed. The cleaver is a stern lifting prop. What the trimate needs is bow lift and lots of it to free it up.

mine was running around 47mph with an unknown prop pitch (3 blade michigan wheel, didnt have any pitch numbers stamped in it)

The laser2 works real well on the O/B powered trimates. You may want to try one on yours. If you can find a place locally that sells props most will let you buy and try until you find one that works.

I just bought a 4 blade propel prop composite adjustable pitch from westmarine (westmarine.com) if that dosent work i'm just gonna stick with the 21" merc alum prop
