Trying to find out more about what I've got...

Toph

From what I know this is supposed to be a 175, but I'm still pretty new to all this and I'm learning as I go. I've known the guy I bought this from for a long time, so I believe him to the best of his knowledge.

The only serial number I've been able to find so far is 4587591 and I haven't been able to track it down on any websites yet. Any suggestions?

Based on this chart on this website it's a 1976 175 http://www.maxrules.com/models/Merc_model_files/175-300.html

I have the same boat, mine's a 1978. I had to put a new floor and stringer in along with new balsa core against the hull. The gelcoat is original we wet sanded and buffed it out. I put a 10" CMC Jack Plate on it and I was running a Merc 2.4 200 with a little tweaking and I was seeing 83mph on GPS. I am having a new powerhead built at the moment, hehe. By far the most fun and forgiving boat i have ever driven, I can't figure out why checkmate only made this hull for 4 years. http://checkmate-boats.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21865

What you have is definitely a find, these boats are super rare, especially in that condition. That 175 bolted on the transom should push that boat atleast 70mph maybe a little more if it's really running healthy. Enjoy!

Thanks, that site definitely helps!

This Saturday we're starting the clean-out and check of the interior. Everything sounds solid, hopefully we don't find too much once the digging begins.
