Turning a 85 Evinrude into a 150 Evinrude

I have a 85 evinrude and i was told that by changing the timing and the carb injectors (never heard of them) i could have a 150. This is due to the fact that everything else is the same. Anyone know if this is the truth or am I being lead stray? My wife works at a marina as a manager and i was talking to her head Mechanic and he told me he did it with a mercury. Please help me.

The only way you are going to turn that 85 into a 150 is by adding 2 cylinders. Sorry guy the head mechanic has been sniffing too much gas!!

Ok, did some research and found out the 115 and 140 of that year had the same blocks as the 85 and 90. Apparently the most I will have to do is buy the new Carbs. Any comments at all welcome.

they might have the same block, but I would imagine (bear in mind that I am a sales guy and not a mechanic) that changing carbs would be one thing you would need to do, but that is all intake, wouldn't you think that the exhaust tuner would be different as well???? don't forget to look at the Jets too, but they will probably be right for the bigger carbs... and possibly timing????

more fuel and air going in, would need more exhaust capacity going out....

or you could just buy a merc :)

LMAO, I would LOVE to buy a Merc. That's what my wife deals with but she won't let me spend the $$$ on a new one....not yet. I'm heading to the local Evinrude dealer to get a specs list on both motors to see what would be needed.
