V-mate 2 overhaul

Ok, so I finally went and got my boat from Georgia, and I realize well.... it needs a little more work than I thought. Thought it only really needed a little transom work. Well.. was up in it the other night and stripped the interior. Noticed the carpet was well a little "lumpy". Started ripping it up to see what was underneath, what I found was not pretty. The previous owner had redone the floor but did not grind any glass smooth, also what seemed to be a solid floor seems to rock back and forth when I stand in the middle of the boat. Granted, it was after 5 and I was starting to unwind with a couple of beers, but I don't think that that was quite right. So gonna rip it out, never done it but after reading some forums here I think I can do this. Also, since I'm gonna do the transom, I'm thinking I'm gonna make it to hold something a little bigger, found a nice 150 Intruder Evinrude. Don't know exactly what I'm getting into, as far as fiberglass though... will post pics when I figure it out.

Thank you so much yellow fiero! you don't know how long I have been tying to figure that out! I just never had the patience. If it ain't mechanical I don't have the patience to figure it out. Anyway, that picture was from my old shop on Lake Lanier, my new ones are from home in Jupiter, Florida I have begun removing and grinding the floor and I can't wait to see the old girl come together!

Ok, so it's all rotten! Oh well, ripped out the seat pedestals and floor and started grinding, glasswork is new to me. And I learned one thing, do not grind in your boardshorts! You'll get glass in places you never thought possible. Another thing, anybody have any ideas what to do with the paint? The cap ain't bad and I think it is original, but how about black and silver to match my truck?

I think it would look good with a 150 Johnny Rude or Merc on it. That part I can figure out. But should I match the boat to the truck? Or should I keep it vintage?

Hey, thats the same colors as my old boat, you are gonna love it. Keep us updated on the progress.

Sure will. This is a little new to me and I really don't know much about fiberglass, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. It is a project that's for sure.

Ok, sorry I haven't paid much attention to this thread, but I've been working a lot lately and the fishing has been great :p! Time to get back on the old girl! Really got into it this weekend and I think she is ready for floor! Any hints or tips will be greatly appreciated. I know this isn't a very popular model, but I really love doing this and I think the outcome will be good.

2.4L 150

Ok, picked up my motor today and got a freakin good deal. The guy I bought it from was going out of buisness. The motor is an 84 2.4L 150 on a 20' shaft, the guy was selling it as a powerhead. I got him to throw in an ugly lower unit that still works and a sportmaster or bob's machine shell all for $350. I'll post some pics tomorrow, it's dark and the motors layin in the truck, hopefully I'll get it on the stand tomorrow.

Here's the unlucky victim comin off the truck. She ain't too pretty! In fact ugly as heck. But I'll bring her back!

Hey, nice project. I've been away for a while so I missed your boat until now. What year is that? I'm not sure when they changed the deck...

I'll be needing a floor at some point, so I'm interested in seeing all I can of your work.

Keep them pics coming! Spring is not that far away so you better get out there and roll around in some more fiberglass. You have one huge project that my A.D.D. would not let me tackle at one time. I have to keep it at stages or the sh*t hits the fan so to say and I end up giving up!!
