Value of a 1977 Trimate IV?

Hi all, I am new to this forum and i am hoping to purchase a 1977 Trimate IV. I skied behind this boat for 2 years and learned to slolom behind it. it has been in indoor storage for 3 years and was owned by one owner and babied since new. it has never sat in the water for more than a weekend, more recently within the last 10 years never sat in the water overnight always on the lift or on the trailler. From what i remember no soft spots or too much wear on the engine. What is a good price for this boat? i don't want to screw over a family friend and i also don't want to pay too much. approximately how much should i suggest without making him feel screwed?

Has no one on this forum ever purchased or sold one of these 77 Trimate IV's?? there must be someone with an idea, or are they rare?

If the boat is in good shape meaning, no soft spots, solid transom, no rips on the interior, good compression on the engine, gelcoat still shines then offer $2000- $2500 for it. Hope this helps.

Hi all, I went to see the boat the other day and all my facts are now straight. It is a 78 trimate IV, with a Mercruiser 470 in it. It has never sat in the water overnight, has one owner, and has around 200hours on it. the only defects i could find were a few small scratches in the hull, but not deep ones. there are no soft spots either. He is selling it with a trailer, and an extra stainless ski prop and regular put around prop allong with the regular ski prop on the boat now, 2 covers, one that snops on and one which is a full boat cover. does $4500 seem to steep for this?

well sorry to mention everything in that post above is correct except for I am not getting the 2 extra props just the regular ski prop. He wasn't willing on bargaining them in.

Can you get pictures to post of the boat you're talking about? I can't help with a inboard motor so hopefully one of the guys with IO's can help.

Yea that's the same boat except that one and most of them have the mecruiser 140, the one I just bought has the mercruiser 470, which is about 170hp. it is basically a 3.7L mercruiser block, with a ford 460 head on it.

So you ended up buying the boat for $4500.00?

Cool Vintage boat, looks to be in great shape. I wouldnt worry about the stress cracks, they have probably been there for years.

Good luck!I have a friend with the same boat, his has a v-6 Merc. But needs the entire floor and interior.Nice boat and if you feel it;s worth the money, great.I payed way to much for mine and have close to 3500 in it already....you get what you pay for sometimes!lol

Hey all here are some pictures of my new to me 1977 Checkmate trimate IV in the driveway. There are two pictures of the hull and to me it looks like cracking in the fibreglass but it may be scratches not sure. Does this need imediate work or should i just keep an eye on it?http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=40797&id=227200717&l=1cfcf3c5e9

To me that looks like scratches, for one thing that's not in an area I'd think would be susceptable to "stress" cracks - which are caused by repeated slight flexing of the gelcoat over a long period of time.

yea i thought the same thing they are right on the bottom of the far right hull. almost at the very bottom where it should technically be the strongest.
