I have a 96 253, blown 454 (7.4l)

The prop that came with the boat is a 3 blade mirage 23p, the kind with the rubber hub, I forget what they are called. I have seen close to 5600 rpms with that prop which is waaaayyyy out of the range for this motor. I can run to about 69 but high rpms.

I then tried a solid hub mirage 25 with the adapter. Still comes out of the hole ok, however it had a tendency to lose water, top end really did not seem to change but it brought my rpms down to a steady 5k.

Next weekend I am trying a 26p Hydromotive 4 blade. Do you think my boat can handle the prop and will I lose my top end?

BTW, at this time I do not have trim tabs...in the works.

The first question I have to ask is what is the horsepower of the engine? In any case, I would go with a 4 blade prop. Those 3 blades are old technology. You wont believe the difference when you bolt on a 4 blade. I liked it so much, I bolted on a 5 blade.

It's a nonmag motor, 330hp with a weiand 177 blower and stainless marine exhaust with risers. I am thinking high 4's...but that is just guesstimating.

Assuming around 500 hp, I think that the 26" Hydromotive would be a good starting point. Or you can try a 28" Bravo 1 4 blade. If you can find or try a box stock prop , get #'s from them, then get it labbed to peak your speed and performance. If you cant, most reputable performance prop shops will offer you the opportunity to try a prop for a minimal fee. As long as you eventually buy a prop from them, they will work with you. If you dont have a good shop to use, I would suggest either BBlades or Throttle-Up. Personally, I use Throttle-Up. If you use Throttle-Up, ask for Julie, she should remember me if you drop my name.

Thanks for your reply. Plan on hearing from me in the future, from reading your posts, your boats the direction I want to go in....starting with stability first then going to the motor. Thanks again for the quick reply

actually, one other question, since it is a non mag motor, and 4800 rpms is the safe spot. I am changing the 6k rev module to a 5200, would you say that is a reasonable setting?
