Vintage Pics of brand new 1972 MX-15

One of my customers (Jim) used to work for Quinn's Marine back in the 70's. Jim is a really good guy who drops around our store every once in a while for a gallon of paint or two and we often swap some stories.

Jim lurks here from time to time but doesn't post. Jim dropped by a few photos he took of one of the various Checks he had over the years.

This one he is particularly proud of is a 1972 MX-15 with a tower of power out back. These photos were taken "back in the day" in '72 as it were. :thumb:

Enjoy!

WHAT MOTOR IS ON IT? IT HAS TO BE 1971 OR EARLIER. SURE LOOKS NICE. WONDER IF IT STILL LOOKS LIKE THIS?????
I'll ask Jim next time he swings by. It looks to be one of the old Red emblem 1250's. It might also be a 1350. I can't remember if they made the 1350 in red.

My 70 is gelcoated identical

The striping looks to be 1250. Both 1350s were red. I can't see the faceplate to figure out which year. The 69 back red stripers had the plastic emblem on the faceplate. I dunno if "THUNDERBOLT IGNITION" was in cursive in 70, but my 71 was block letters on the faceplate.

New member - I think this was my old boat!!

I just bought a 1987 Exciter (my 3rd checkmate) with a 220 Laser XRI - not yet running - waiting for a new TPI to arrive - hopefully next week. In any event just joined this forum. My had my first checkmate in the early 80's and used it out of Beaverton Marina on lake simcoe. For fun I did a search on this forum and - I am 90% sure that this very boat was my boat. I am going to check the registration number to confirm. The world is incredibly small!!

Yes. The entire boat is original and almost as new - with the interior as new. Hour meter read 230 and my mechanic is of the view that it is correct.

It was my boat...

Well - the world is a very small place - just checked the registration numbers - I owned this boat from sping 84 to late fall 86. Rebuilt the motor in fall 85. Great boat. Great memories.
