WANTED: 20-25ft Checkmate

HONDAM

Member
Im not being to picky here, basically looking for an inexpensive boat that i can put some time into. Preferably an outboard style boat with no/blown up motor and a decent transom. This will be my first checkmate but after seeing a few of them come through my shop i figured it would be the ideal for me. If you have anything close id appreciate it, im looking to buy soon.

Thanks

Thank you for the reply but I unfortunately cant use anything with a Murcury Outboard on it. My family owns a small dealership here on the south side of Chicago and we deal with Johnson, Evinrude, Suzuki, and Honda outboards. Im looking for something i can fix and maintain on my own. But that sounds like a good model of boat so if your interested in selling it without the motor, let me know your asking price. I been looking for months for a checkmate and so far nothing like what im looking for. I would really appreciate any offers.

I don't know what you want to spend...but I'm gonna sell my 1992 21' starflite and get a fishing boat.(I've finally reached that age where I just want to fish...go fast doen't do it for me anymore...that's why I'm selling)....it's not a fixer upper...all stock but it is nice. solid black with red and yellow stripes...200 merc xri...runs in the mid 60's...stock, no jack plate...everything works. I'm figuring out now what to list it for...but it's nice...I'm out of chicago and the boat is in northern wi...If you have any interest...let me know...tjbacha@hotmail.com

Thank You

I have recently purchased a Checkmate, it wasnt what i was originally looking for but it was a deal i could not refuse. One of my customers had a checkmate and a starcraft, and he wanted the motor off the checkmate on the starcraft and if i switched it over for him i could keep the checkmate!! Great deal right? What i got was a 15' 81 V-Mate, yes that is an 81. Apperently someone made a special request for one 3 years after they stopped making them and checkmate obliged.

It need some minor work but otherwise in great condition, solid transom and clean interior. Got a tuned 135 pushing over 150hp Johnson to put on the back. It my first checkmate and i am definately excited to get in the water in the spring. Heres a few preliminary pics.

From what i hear its about a 70mph boat. Not the fastest but one of the best looking and great on gas.

Think boat was commisioned and custom build for Honda and their release of the 225hp VTEC engine. Its the boat many of you have probably seen in some of the Honda ads. That engine on the back is actually a preproduction prototype unit. I bought it without that motor but do plan on putting a new 07 225 Honda back on.

Thank guys for the support. Once i get a motor on it and get it on Lake Michigan ill get some more pictures and probably a couple videos. Might be some time though, i have to sell something before i can afford a new motor. This summer though, cant wait to be at the playpen in downtown chicago. I still have the V MAte I though, wont make it downtown with only a 13 gallon tank, but it will put me out on the water.
