WATER STAINS

This product appears to work but seems pretty aggressive. It sounds similar to "iron out" which I used to use on my white Sea Ray. Didn't want to breath that acid/sulfer like crap in either and it seemed to dull the hull after a few uses. Great for one time use on heavy staining but I wouldn't use it daily unless you like constant waxing or run a bagliner like this guy:o

My boat never sits in the water overnight so I am looking for a less aggressive product for the light green river line. Maybe a good soap? Any suggestions?

I use Hula boat care products and they are great. the best part is the products doesn't have a terrible smell and are biodegradable. If you have a question the answer will come from the owner/developer of the product.

on edit: I forgot hula is working on a spot remover that is in the testing phase and should be available soon. one of the things they test with their products is smell. if the owner doesn't like the smell then it is not ready.

Purple power works pretty nice.Wet the surface first.

Purple Power or Super Clean work well. For the really tough stuff nothing beats the acid. I actually need to do mine. I never left it in for more than a night or two until this 4th of July weeks when I left it in for 5 nights and now the bottom is stained. Lesson learned. :(

"the works" spray bathroom cleaner, sprays on just like the video...not nearly as aggresive, doesnt hurt your hands or to breathe. its also only 2 bucks a bottle at our local Menards home store. i have been using it for several years now. try it.

Bio-Kleen has a fiberglass acid which is the same as on-off and they both are very good but aggressive. I have been using three equal parts water-windex-white vinegar and also works great for daily use.

Slimey grimey works just as good as on off w no fumes, there is also the on off gel that doesn't smell very bad. I think half the battle is not to let it dry I've seen a few guys with their solvent of choice in a pump sprayer hitting their boats up as soon as they get em back on the trailer

Do you guys use hull cleaner every time you take the boat out? Not sure what the waters like where you are, but I pretty much have stains every time I pull it from the water, and normally it's just a day trip. Is there a way to keep from getting stains (i.e. more waxing)?

Jazzy, I bought a sprayer for the purpose of spraying down when putting it on the trailer....my only issue is what are you supposed to spray it off with when you get done?? I'm certainly not carrying two sprayers every where I go.

I only use the hull cleaner when after washing with soap and water if theres anything that didn't come off. Its normally about 80% of the time that i need to put a few ounces on a rag and wipe down the water line. I havent found any way to stop it as for more waxing etc it never makes a difference.

I find that once on/off has been used on gel coat once, the stains come back very fast. I try to keep on/off away from virgin gelcoat but that only lasts so long. IMO the best solution is after using on/off wash with soap and water, et dry, then use a PTFE (teflon) polish, if you apply it well it lasts a long time. I do it twice a year in the salt water and it still beads up 6 months later but I re apply anyways

the stains are from the pores in the fiberglass getting clogged with very small particles of junk. I worked at a boat yard in college, we would ues Oxalic Acid (bought in bulk and cheap) mixed with water to make a very weak acid (like vinegar), brush it on and it would literally make the stains disappear like the OxyClean commercials.

You have to wax it when you are done, or you are just going to fill up those pores again....fill them with wax, and the stains wont come back. I must have done a hundred hulls like this and it works great and is inexpensive. Don't wax it, and you are back in the same jam in no time.

That makes sense rover. My boat is new to me, and while I could tell he waxed the hell out of the deck & sides, I don't think he ever waxed the hull on the bottom. I get on the side that i can mostly wipe off, but the stains underneath i have to use a hull cleaner. I guess i just need to get underneath there and do some waxin.

cleaners

heres all that ive tried , buffing compound, oven cleaner , the works , hull cleaner ,royal purple cleaner, the white stains are still there . oh i tried goof off to . the sides have come out pretty good but the back and the bottom still have some pretty good white stains . the top of this boat is really flat no shine at all the sides look new . any ideas .

White stains? Did you mean yellow stains? I didn't see on off on your list or slimy grimey.
