wax

I dont know if it is the best but, I like to use Turtle Wax Platinum. It is cheap and applies and buffs a lot easier the any other wax that I have tried so far. I dont like any Mcquire products at all.

RejeX

Claupie, I have a product that I got to use on the fiberglass of my motorhome. I first saw it advertised in the RV mags but now I'm seeing it the boating publications. I put it on the Sportfire and I'm impressed with with the results. It comes from the same people that make CorrosionX , CT (Corrosion Technologies) If the gelcoat is in good shape it goes on easily and when dry buffs off just as easy. I actually got mine on line because I hadn't seen it anywhere local. The main reason that I bought it was that it came from CT and I have been using CorrosionX for the last 14 years and I'm still impressed by it. Its just my opinion but if you use it I think you will be impressed also.

Claupie I've tried three different waxes on the fiberglass Meguiar's Flagship Premium Marine Wax, Starbrite Premium Marine Polish w/ PTEF and Mothers California Gold Carnauba Cleaner Wax. They're all easy to use.

Hey claupie:

i had my dad's boat water sanded and restriped about 3 or 4 years ago, and at the time, the guy told me to use a polish and not a wax as over the years, the wax will yellow the hull.

so, i have been using "aurora boat shine" which lasts all season and seems to be protecting the blue of the boat very well (it's an 86 and you'd never know it).

here is a link - you can get at most marine dealers (it's canadian made too):

http://www.auroramarine.com/aurora/catalog/01130/index.html

i get 2 applications out of one bottle and do it every may - water is still beading off the hull. i could send you a couple of pics if you'd like to see "real world" application.

Chris post some pictures of your boat, I would like to see the results as well.

I used 3M Marine Wax this season and the shine has held up real well.

Application was easy too...

Let us know what you use and how it works.

Mitcher T painted my boat and I asked him what to use. He recommends Race Glaze or a product that is similar to this called Wizards. I have had a hard time to find Race Glaze but Wizards was not so hard to find. These products are used by a lot of autobody guys in the race industry. Not to expensive either.

NuFinish. It is the best wax/Polish. You can apply it in direct sun and still wipe it off easy, after you pull your boat out of the water any residue from the water wipes right off. And it sold everyware and its cheap to boot!!

Here it is:

this was in may - i think it's a decent pic - the boat is a 1986 and it was water sanded and restriped in 2004 - and it still looks good. this was polishing day. it's the best pic i have of the old girl.

While I've always love the Meguiars Flagship Marine Wax I found this new stuff that Sea Ray actually recommends. It's called Yacht Brite Pro Polish. It got my parents boat shinier than its ever been and that was by hand without using a buffer.

Wizards, hands down the best I have found and use it for my business. You can buy direct from the companies web site if it is not found locally...

Good thread, but no one seems to lean towards one wax or the other. I never heard of wax yellowing the gel though. I wouldn't use any sort of automotive wax on gel however, that may be why? Anyway, I've used a few different brands with mixed results. This past April, I did the 3 step process with Mcguires products and it shined my Persuader up will. However, i used their flagship marine wax and wasn't happy. After sitting in some rather crappy water for a few hours, i got tremendous staining at the waterline that was difficult to remove. I ended up polishing the sides all over. I'm going with 3M this time around. Others swear by Aquabuff products too.

Im anal about my vehicles and always have been, kids got me zymol cleaner wax for fathers day. ive never ever seen anything better, stuff is amazing!!!!! Then i looked it up and the formula 1 teams use it.
