What brand of battery are you all running? Any input to either good or bad batterys. Time for a few batterys, 2 for my mate and 1 for the cat. I dont want to wast money on junk:brickwall:.
Thanks:cheers:

I have been running the same Optima yellow top for 12+ years now. Although not in the boat, it will be my next battery purchase for the boat.

I had really bad luck with an Optima in my truck.....lasted about a year. I have just had good luck with the batteries from the big box auto parts stores.....not NAPA's though....those aren't very good either

I had the same experiance. I know Interstate Battery used to carry them but they had a closeout on them. I bought 5 of them for about $35 a piece and resold all but 1 of them before I got home. Maybe a ownership change or what not but the one I kept only lasted about 10 months. Last time I was up there they did not have them on display either. Seems like some of the old ones are still going strong tho....

Yorktown, VA Persuader 235

I am running a dual battery system with 2 1000 cold cranking amp batteries from Bass Pro Shop. They are white batteries w/white top. I don't remember the brand name but they seem to do fine. Also with bass pro they have an unconditional 1 year warranty - if you have a problem bringem back and get two more at no charge.

I'm only on year 2 with these so take it for what it's worth - but so far, so good.

Ok doing some research here.
Optima-made by johnson controls, 2 year free replacement, $180
Duralast(auto zone)-made by johnson controls, 1 year free replacement, $70
Deka- only 90 day free replacement, $75
ACDelco- 1 year free replacement, $70

I think I am going to get the ACDelco's. Just because they give me that good GM feeling:lol:. Good warranty also, and a good price. Plus I got 7 years out of my last delco auto battery.

i had an interstate / stepped up to a optima blue top, almost 2 years, had a yellow top in my cj for 3years then my j-10 til it sold !:bigthumb:

The one thing I like about the optima's is they dont leak. They are a dry cell battery. You dont need to put them in a box. The yellow top is a dual purpous battery so you can run it dead without hurting it and use it to start.

In my boats i have run nautalis batteries. good luck so far.

I have had them all! If it has a 2yr warranty then replace it after 2 years. Same goes for 3 years, but there aren't many out there with 3 years. Marine batteries take a beating/pounding. I have a Optima blue top when I purchased it but removed it because I could never get it charged to a voltage of more than 12.2v. A fully charged battery is 12.6v or slightly more.

Right now i've got a nautilus marine battery, other then the terminals getting rusty from water splashing on it its ok :p

What would b a good battery to run as a secondary for a stereo? Something that can be run dead then recharged constantly.
Deep cycle? Anyone have a setup like this?

Not dry cell Gel cell. They can be mount any way even upside down and wont leak.

All optimas are deep cycle other than the red tops yellows and blue can be drained and charged over and over. If you drain a red its just like draining a normal car battery their life gets cut down every time.

.4v makes that much of a difference? just wondering. I need to replace mine this year and have the starting / radio setup with dual batteries and would like to run Optimas if possible.

I have a small charging system and a 900 watt stereo system that gets plenty of use when were out on the water.
I run an Optima yellow top and have never had any problems.
I also love the fact that it is a gel cell.NO ACID LEAKS!!:bigthumb:

AGM's

I have used Lifeline AGM type and have had them last for 5 years in different boats. They are a bit pricey but they can be run flat without damage and they are totally maint. free.

As I am itching for the season to start, I was going through old threads and I htought I would bring this one back up. I am searching for a new battery or maybe two (one for the stereo). Any one have a new favorite?

I've got a WalMart one in my Mate and my old boat. The one in the old boat is over 10 years old and still serving my Dad well. I keep them in the basement during the winter and trickle chrage them in the spring.
