what is it

The splashwell shape looks different to my eye and the other thing I noticed was that the rear seat in the brochure pic, appears to be flush with the top of the deck mould, where in the seller's pic, the seat back cushion appears to be higher.

I suppose the interior could have been replaced though.

I'm thinking its not a Checkmate. The deck has lines that are close, but different. Motor well is different, its square, and the deck has style lines on it that don't match any Checkmate deck.

My thoughts exactly.
I emailed the owner and he doesn't know. I then asked him for the hull number. Gonna get to the bottom of this:rof:

The line's on the side towards the back where the grab rail ends look the same but the grab rail is about 6" too short, and if you zoom in on the pic from the front the grab rail doesn't curve down to the deck, it just ends.

Another thing I noticed is he's got some support rods going from the top bolts of the JP back to the front of the splashwell, I did that exact thing in my old boat using ready rod just as a precaution but that could be a sign of a bad transom.

Hmmm, this is an interesting one! I think it's an Exciter with an incorrect replacement bowrail installed. I also agree with what nathan said about the deck lines being lost in the bright white of the pic. Rear seat may have been changed out to an incorrect seat as well. Still looks funny tho, very hard to tell, wish there were more pics (but then we probably wouldn't be having this discusion lol).

Just heard back from owner,

The prior owner put checkmate stickers on he boat because checkmate is just like "sunray" which according to the title, this boat is. According to my research, he's right they look identical to me.

Beware of frauds!:shakehead:

Yup,, we have a winner, it's a Sunray Charger! Wow that boat is a pure rip off of Checkmate and the Exciter!! Take a look at this pic, middle boat is a Glastron GT too...

Good luck with it, beware owner seems a bit jumpy.
He didnt like being told it wasn't a checkmate and he might want to list it as what it really is.

Good luck. Check it over real good for corrosion. It's a Checkmate splash, so you're welcome here if you buy it! :welcome:

I owned a Sunray SS 480 (middle pic) when I was 17, when the transom went out of my Glastron CVX 16 I found the SS 480 at an auction for $500 and threw my 140 johnny on it, it was a good little boat once I put 200 lbs of sand in the front to keep the bow down :D

At least they made a few changes to the design. Not a bad looking boat really.
Coop, would they have acquired the original hull mold from Checkmate?

I was thinking 'Mate might have sold the hull mold and then they developed their own deck mould.
